New Grower Let's talk Scrog

I'm just putting my thoughts out there, you make the final decision...okay,I use two 600 watt lamps and an open grow( no tents) this allows me to adjust the "footprint" of the area,I tried to do 50sf in the past( 2 areas at 5x5) with the open grow and no training 6 plants under each light ended up needing more space than the 50sf,this was with no training,my current grows have started out at 4x4 area and quickly outgrow that,I can adjust since it's open but HID lighting loses efficiency pretty quickly trying to light a 5x5 or 6x6 area unless a flat even canopy is created,I can honestly say that the 2 auto ultimates with a proper scrog would fill that same 4x4 or even a 5x5 area,,my advice would be to start with four plants per light in a 16sf area to utilize the scrog to its full potential ,you can always do more plants later but don't make it frustrating to the point that it causes problems, don't forget about watering, maintenance and airflow.sometimes less is better!!..lastly AU is considered a "medium" sized plant but mine are 43 inches tall, try some x-small/small framed strains if you want/need more plant count, this might be what ur looking for...peace

That sounds like a good idea for sure. I think I'll run less and see what I come up with.

I think that's a good idea, here's my plan.instead of a free standing screen,I plan on rigging a 2x2 screen to each bucket that way they are still somewhat " freestanding" and mobile, but again in a 4x4 area that's only 4 plants

Just ran 9 plants in a 4x4 and I can tell you it's like having a jungle in there. It was my 1st grow so I had to think outside the box to even the canopy.

Nice!! My first indoor grow had a 6 X11 tent( made with panda film) I hated getting in there to water and such,I hear ya on the jungle thing,it was frustrating and I think the best advice I have for anyone is " slow and steady wins the race" ,last growing season I had 8 in the greenhouse,12 indoors, plus a poppy bed, lots of work, but I'll prolly do it again this year, there's no law against self abuse!! Lol

Sweet!!! Totally agree with you on that.

Ok im sorry i hijacked the thread with some off-topic earlier...
but im also planning my first scrog. Im growing in a ~ 3x4ft cabinet.
Ill be doing 2 or 3 Girl Scout Cookies in 25L airpots, soil.. Im thinking ill top them once right before the 3rd week of veg starts and start scrogging them when they are about 24-25 days. The net will be made of string and be 2x2" sections... I have never done this before but Ive done a fair share of reading on the subject and this seems like a good way to go. I plan on going Fast Buds GSC because from what my personal seed stash has to offer, they are the only ones that seem strong enough to take a topping!
thought id share! Peace

Good idea on the plant count. I think that the scrog method is not as hard as it seems but since I've never done,I don't want to underestimate it or try and oversimplify it to someone else.the scrogs I have seen on here are a sight to behold, and yes they do make it look easy/simple,hey we all gotta start somewhere, right?? My current plants are beyond scrog-able/help ,but the next ones will be a first for me..when the process is in progress I will post pics but till then I will continue to contribute any ideas or thought I have..Peace
