Let’s talk organics. How newbie/stealth friendly can it be?

I had started out putting a half avocado in a pot and I've used beans as well as a treat. They go nuts over it. I had to stop when the fungus gnats started up cause they loved it as well. Now that cooler weather is coming back, I'll start in again. Malted barley is also good. More on avocado

@olegren @Sour D Hey Guys, The good folks at Homegrown Bokashi have shut down for the winter to move their facility so they can be back up and ready to roll by spring. I’ve been talking to them after I placec a HUGE order from them right before they shut down. I also received 40% off by looking for discount codes, though I found three different codes I used the one with the best percentage off which is why I purchased so much!! Just thought I would share that information with you both and hope it helps.

Also, @Sour D, good looking out on the soil that you can buy from true value. I will go check that out and compare with KIS and BAS. Thanks man. That was great information on the in store ordering.

Glad to hear they are growing. Thanks for passing that on! And the info on discounts. Gotta keep that in mind when they open back up.

Now that you mention it, I now remember that's what the Insta post was about so I bought a 5# grow kit. Think it was like 40% off
@olegren How many plants you planning to start out with?

Probably 2 to be honest. I am in a 2x4. I picked the 4x autopot with 5 gallon fabric pots so I'd have a little flexibility to scale, but I think two healthy plants in 5 gallon planters would fill my space up handsomely.

There are 4 in there right now that are kind of stunted, and they're still crowding one another. :vibe:

Did they happen to mention a real time as to when they plan to reopen?

Right now they are just saying spring of next year. There was a moment that they felt that the transition might keep them down for a bit but the response to their sale and being able to move inventory I think helped them a lot. They seemed super stoked in our last email exchange.

On another note, I love supporting small businesses that are specialists and make high quality products. Really trying to take every opportunity to buy anything that I don’t eventually make on my own or can’t make on my own for whatever reason from people who are passionate about what they do/make. Like RocBudInc, Home Grown Bokashi, KIS, Build A Soil, etc. Growing cannabis, especially in living organics, seems like a great opportunity to follow through on that support.

Thanks again for the soil recommendations for the op, I’m trying to see if I can get it in my location deep in prohibition land.

Just a heads up: HGMB is back to selling stuff. Noticed they've got products listed on the site again as of this morning. Think I'm gonna pick some up shortly.

Flip-flopping a little on my selection of autopots for the organic approach. There aren't many sample grows out there using autopots in this way, and the system itself kind of forces that you disengage from it in order to treat with any organic nutes/top dressings (i.e. you can't feed it through the reservoir) which isn't ideal. I wasn't really sure I would use worms when I made the decision to go organics, but now I'm pretty much sold that it's requisite. Also won't work super well with autopots. For a purely organic approach, it seems more and more like an Earth Box makes more sense. From what I have seen, I can comfortably plant a couple autos in a single EB, and its foot print would be ideal for my 2x4. 18 gals would also get me into no till territory which is appealing. So I went ahead and ordered one of those. :pass:

I've learned enough about organics this week from the kind pros onsite to know that I really want to give it a shot. But I've also learned enough to know I have a ton more to learn before I can do it right. Really, this is a good thing. I need some additional tools, I'd like some compost, and of course I need to cook a soil. So I'm going to start on that project.

But instead of trying to make it happen for the next grow (which I'm still anxious to start), I'm going to rock blue's style with these autopots and see if I can at grow something worth toking on while I build the organic setup. Her style is by far the most successful 'low hassle' method I've ever seen. That Sweet Train Wreck looks incredible. Autopots will remove several variables for me in terms of watering; which was a major contributor in my bottles+soil catastrophes of the past. I think I'm gonna give this canna regimen a shot with the autopots and see if I can find a simlar harmony.

I've also acquired two sets of goodly thought-of soil: The COM Quoddy + Bar Harbor (2 cu. feet total) and Stonington plant food are processing to ship to a local True Value. I think it'll be a couple weeks, but that's OK. I also snagged 3 cu. feet of Roots Organic Green Lite that my local hydro shop had. Seems like either will make a fine base.

This week, I am reading a lot about worms & starting an indoor compost setup. :smoking:

I personally have helped several over the course to achieve these results that you seek within organic growing. two primary thing to grasp right off. PPM and PH to a large extent play zero role in this like the bottled community deals with.and 2, it is ALL about prep and input.

but you are 100% correct it is simple and you can spend far more time with your family with just water or a slapped together tea a cpl times a grow.Stealth?myself live pretty remote and few smell it so Im pretty solid especially in winter since cold tamps smell. So I can led little but its simple misdirection. TONS of people are growing year round or seasonal indoor fruits n veggies indoors for ease of use and family supply, organic and all that jazz. thats why ya learn about what the soil food web ad composting is all about and dazzle them with the cool soil youre building for your next outdoor season grow or indoor veggie family supply or whatever fits you.

the thing is dirrerent places have different problems and the like just across the states where I am at on the east coast.

the key is buying the right gear thats gonna work for you buy its an outlay right off getting set up.I have not used BAS line of soils as of yet since I have used KIS with a solid amount of results if I actually tend the garden some.less input and work overall with regards to watering a feeding.

But I use a tote and mix around 25 gallons of soil and let it do its things.literally like the back of the package says minus a few gallons of perlite.pot it up and put i a booster or two and prep each pot accordingly and that it untill transition phase and then a a cpl weeks or so after flower is roaring and other tha a mellow life finishing tea and rinse thats essentially it then cut trim n dry then jar n cure.

Just understand your environment in that if you get pests each season indoors and you can control the temps decent and the RH and you should be pretty golden overall imho. since thats literally what I do.or have done many moons ago.but I dont run an entirely asealed unit cuz I dont have to worry about stealth really these days,so.but without even growing just dial in the temps RH with just running lights on the cycle ya want for a week or whatever to get it. the its prep the pots and watch light distance and watering and a cpl teas. POW.

And teas are my thing really as well as shake n bake soil mixes and I assure you anerobic teas can smell, but aerobic are just as stinky.LOL especially if you use a bloom booster that seems mellow asf right off. just add water and air and POW! LOL
