Indoor It's my first time, be gentle

Ok, so between yesterday and today they have put on some height. It's really remarkable how fast they have grown in 24 hours. After looking around on here I am really concerned about how big these are going to get. Peter Pan has a Northern Lights that is the size of a short obese person! I'm not sure what to do if these end up being the size of his. I'm hoping someone is going to tell me that won't be the case with these since I can't bring myself to kill off one or two. Sophie's choice comes to mind :frowny:

So anyone out there with experienced with these two strains please let me know. :thanks:

Yeah, once the stretch really starts it is amazing how fast they grow. You will just wake up one morning and it will be 2 inches taller with side branches poking through. If you need to keep them shorter, tie them over. My first grow was Northern Lights from Crop King, so you can look at the grow for some reference. It is down in my signature.

Good luck!

The ambient temperature is less important than the actual temp of the leaf itself as the light hits it. The curling up of the sides of the leaves is one of two things.

1. The light is too close and the radiant heat is raising the surface temperature on the plant matter above 85 degrees or so.

2. Wind burn, meaning that you have a fan blowing directly at the plant. Both of these things can start to dry out the leaves and cause them to "cup" like that.

We can't see the plant color because of the light.. You should post a few pics using just the flash on your camera as lighting so we can see the color and the leaves.

From what I see, they look good other than the heat/wind issue. I would say to raise your light up another 6-8 inches, and if you have a fan running, face it at the wall and turn it down a notch.

#2!!! Wow! I put a fan on her to help keep her cooler, but she kept curling. Now I know why. I'll go fix that right now. Thank you!!

It seems the wind was the problem. Since I turned the fans down she hasn't curled anymore. So that is one problem solved! Thanks again

It is time to feed again and I would like advice on what they might like. Last time I gave them the Grow, Diamond Black, and Bio Weed. I haven't added any Cal Mag and I'm not sure if I should since I use tap water.

Here they are at 22 days old. As suggested I took these pics in natural light with the flash on. Hope these are better :)

I have one more issue that I could use advice on. These girls are stinky and I have a carbon filter set up in the tent, but it gets so hot in there I can't close it up. Suggestions?

And as always :thanks:

You are welcome. Glad I could help. As for your other questions...

I don't grow in soil or use organic stuff, so I can't help you on this one.

I hate to be the one to say it, but that HPS is killing you in that little tent. You need to go for LED. Or get a bigger tent and a bigger fan/filter. What is the fan and filter setup you are using? Are you using an intake/exhaust type setup, or are you running a closed environment? Where is the tent? Inside? In a garage?

Tell me about your setup.

That is my set up that I have in a spare bedroom. The fan is on the top and it is a 6 inch fan that I have blowing back into the tent to help control temperature. I've tired air fresheners but they almost seem to make it worse. I was looking at a product called Ono and wonder if it works well? I'm not very willing to invest any more money into this, so hopefully I can find a solution with what I have, or something very cheap.

For future reference, how much cooler does LED run? I thought they were just a better spectrum of light but wasn't aware they don't produce as much heat.

If anyone would like to chime in with feeding recommendations I would much appreciate it. Thank you again!!

If you are blowing back into the tent then you are just circulating hot air and allowing odor to escape. You should have it set up so that the fan sucks stinky air in through the filter, removing the odor, and spits it out of the tent. Then, just a hole down low that intakes cooler air as the hot air is exhausted by the fan. This is called a passive intake. The idea is to bring in cool air at the bottom and exhaust hot air at the top. The passive intake creates negative pressure in the tent to keep odor from escaping anywhere but through the filter. You can run duct to exhaust the air into your attic, or out a window if you are brave, but I prefer into the room so I know immediately if the filter starts to fail. If you are running your carbon filter correctly and it is decent, there shouldn't be any smell unless you open the tent. My new filter arrives today. My current one lasted a year. It is a Phat Filter. I am replacing it with a Phresh Filter. I hear they last longer. But the Phat made my setup completely odor free.

If the cfm rating of your filter says 400cfm, then for direct exhaust, the rating is actually 200cfm. It will eliminate all of the odor at that cfm. it may do it at a higher cfm for a while, but it won't last as long if you exceed that 1/2 mark for direct exhaust odor elimination. The 400 cfm rating is meant for scrubbing a closed environment.

Ona gel is supposed to be really strong, but you will NEVER cover up the smell of a plant in flower with it. You need solid carbon filtration for that. If you set it up properly, you won't smell a thing.

I have never run HPS, but I will say that LED is a LOT cooler. It still gets warm, but you can touch the lights when they are running if that tells you anything. All of them put off heat, but LEDs put off less than HPS MH and CFL.
