So im still generally new to the indoor scene and just finished my first run in coco with gaia green dry amendments. (i will not be using gaia green in pure coco again) I however learned A LOT from the first run and ill still be using coco as my medium. However I will be switching gears in nutes to canna coco a+b and bio rhizo pk 13/14.

So basically I am pretty damn new to using tds meters and read a few things online. However I think making my own thread might help more.

So What is good or bad ppm for starting water before nute mixes, how do you know if you need to adjust the initial ppm before adding nutes if thats a thing. Whats appropriate ppm levels for feeding plants, seedling-veg-flower.

The ppm of my tap water is about 30 but I have no clue if thats good or bad or if adjustments need to be made. I still have one plant in my tent before I need to clean inside the tent and prep for my second run in the coming days so any insight would be greatly appreciated. My next run is gonna be 4 purple lemonade from FB so I want to make sure I get everything as dialed in as I can. Also just general knowledge when it comes to ppms/ec etc is much appreciated as well.

I Also have questions about run off. In seedling stage with autos in my mind watering to run off ( im using 5 gallon fab pots) seems a bit much. I have never had to water to run off due to not utilizing salt based nutes so I was hoping to get some insight on that, is 10-15% run off sufficient?

Now for my third inquiry is measuring run off. How will I know based off the readings of the tds what adjustments need to be made. I assume salt build up means higher ppm coming out then going in, adjustments for salt build up and any other general info on this topic is also appreciated

hi pal in the uk we deal in ec also if you tap water is that low that's a good thing that means there aren't lots of minerals already in there so its close to ro water as mines a really low ec anyhow canna are great newts a bit pricey but still good all-around .anyhow starting seedling this is me personally i dont water till run off till my tiny seedlings are thriving and i know the roots are searching great the rhizo will help with that at first i just water around the edges of the seedling and only feed when i know she needs it as i dont want to waterlog a little baby by say day 12 onwards i water to 20 pcent run off with every feed but only when my pot feels a little light and eventually every day and one last thing dont measure run off unless you have issues i hope ive helped

30 ppm is awesome! You should be able to check with your city for what's in it, but at that low...
Runoff...
Coco is a bit of a different beast. If it dries out, it messes with the nutrient exchange and will have the pH all over. It's a water to runoff every time medium. 5 gallon are HUGE for coco. 3 gallon is plenty big. And require less moisture to hit runoff.

Salt is another reason to always water to runoff. Pushing bad out and replacing with good continuously.

After the last run, you'll get your feet under you fast here. It's all about taking readings, then adjusting feed.

Never water only!

also i would make a journal as lots of people will jump in along the way and give you pointers also nice to meet you my friend

Hi tom hi arthur, Thanks for the quick responses and rather informative ones at that! Good to hear my tap water isn't totally ass here in canada.
Yeah Ill more then likely run a journal just in case. You 2 very much helped me out here even if the questions were rather simple ones. Thanks again! Nice to meet you both. Looking forward to more engaging conversations here, this site has helped me out alot before this post so I knew damn well where to go to ask the questions

hit me up anytime pal i think you deffo picked up a lot of knowledge on your 1st grow my advice is keep it simple and don't overfeed your plants and you will be golden anyhow my beds calling so goodnight :d5: :vibe: :smoking:

Yeah for sure. from my understanding most nutrient lines you have to feed a a much reduced dosage or as the saying goes less is more. Plus harder to correct overfeed then under. For sure bud I will do that thanks again! Night brother :smoking:
