I've come to the theory that.. In using the smaller stones I've created a heavier net pot than I would have had had I used the slightly larger ones...
This in turn has created a slightly tougher environment for my roots to plough through to get to the food... In fact the food is right there for them.. I mean The base of the net pots are dripping wet... They probably happy enough where they are at!!
Even the rock wool cube is still soaking wet... The idea is to try & get that to dry out a tad.. To get the roots away looking for food... As you can see in the pic above is that I haven't covered the rock wool cube with pebbles.. but it still mustn't be getting dry enough..
Hmm.. I could gently lift a good few pebbles out I suppose.. It's the pebbles around it that are keeping it moist...
So there is two noob mistakes I've made in DWC hydro.. So YOU dont have too... Don't use really small clay pebbles & don't overfill your net pots until roots are in the res...
