New Grower Identify this bug

Something ripped a few 1 to 2cm bit of yellow paper off one of the traps too. Not rat or mice like, more bird like

I would try some sticky traps just in case cause Vaseline seems like it may deter bugs, while sticky traps attract them
 
Says the guy in Colorado lol.
The munched leaves are the product of something that isn't living on the plant, perhaps a passer by.
There have been a few of these suckers living on the plants thats why I wanted to stop them before they really set up shop.
 
well without pics or a way to identify the perpetrators I don't see us being much help. I mean maybe you aren't catchin what I am sayin, if you take a picture of JUST the leaf damage it could be of any leaf as long as the whole thing is not in focus. take a really close up pic of the leaf damage and who's to say it isn't an oak leaf, you know what I mean?

I will give it a go tomorrow and see if I can come up with something to satisfy your undeniable passion for the holey leaf haha
 
Google image for grasshopper damage looks pretty similar to the damage Im seeing, and there are lots of them around here, many many varieties of them too
 
I just made a batch of garlic and jalapeno spray, will give it a test run tomorrow and report back

while the damage can look similar trust me they are differnet to the trained eye. its about their mouth parts, i am interested in your holey leaf only cause i want to help, and you describing holes in your leaves isn't much help
