hydropnics store ettiquete

When I first started doing business at my local hydro shop it was still illegal here and no one spoke about weed at first. As soon as It became obvious to everyone that I was growing weed the whole atmosphere changed. It was not long after that they revealed that everyone that worked there was a grower. Some of them with large scale operations :crying:. Now that it is legal here size of the grows is still kept private but everything else is just conversation.

My state isn't legal so I wouldn't step one foot in a Hydroponics Store. That term is like referring to weed as tomatoes. For all I know it's a damn sting operation. I suppose I could check out the shoes they are wearing

Great replies here!

So we do have a lot of house plants and that damn hydro store sure has the greatest saucers and amazing prices to with it too.

They do have a nice selection of citrus pants and herbs to show off their grow equipment.

I went and got some dirt too, it's nice to have a store near by because some things are just cheaper when they buy in bulk and you can check things out to get a feel. Like a clone dome is cheap there some ordering a single dome online from Amazon just has to charge more to cover shipping....

As far as I am concerned, i grow tomatoes and peppers.

Seriously! I started going because the other "garden centers" here had nothing besides crap soil and miracle grow. It was a last resort at first but now, they have all sorts of nice high end dirt and regular plant supplies. And the guys actually know their stuff.

Amazon can get stuffed every now and then.

Growing bonzais for 50 yrs, ya get to visit a lot of nurseries where you glean the simple ways of growing natures designs....loved smoking a doob and roaming around always with an eye open for anything that translates into growing a special herb...
15 yrs ago, although weed was highly illegal, we had a local nursery dramatically and suddenly expand to a whole store devoted to 'growing herbs'...even though we always talked in code, we all knew what 'parsley' or 'tomatoes' were. Still using germ lights I bought there and miss the ready availability of the best (at that time) grow supplies....
They actually stayed in business for several years til the owner was discovered having several large grows scattered around the area...never knew how they were busted but with their footprint in an illegal business was bound to stir a little dust.
Even though our state has legalized cbd and license to grow it, there's still no nurseries that comes close to having the supplies that guy had the balls to merchandise. It pays to keep ya business to yourself.....

I always use general terms but my hydro shop also sells c-vaults and trim bins designed specifically for cannabis so they are really trying to target this market.

While some items are way more expensive at the brick and mortar, buying larger items there that come on a pallet might save you a fortune on shipping

Interesting thread to this elder Canadian. My local garden store is one of my more enjoyable retail therapy locations, especially now that growing MJ is legal here. The fellow that runs the place knows what I grow and why, and some of the conversations we have had about growing have been quite entertaining. His description of how obvious the growers were before legality, and how periodically they would disappear suddenly, usually after being busted, were hilarious (and no, I am not laughing at the poor buggers who had their lives screwed up by the ridiculous laws involved).

That local garden store stays open all winter here, is willing to order stuff in if I need it, and has all manner of misc. growing supplies at very reasonable prices, especially the large bales of quality growing medium impossible to have shipped from you know who at acceptable cost. I support him when I can, and am glad that he manages to stay afloat. If he disappeared, only the local hardware stores would be left for gardeners, which would in my opinion be a shame.
