Week: 1 - Day: 1

I had a little bit of what you could call a noob hydro mistake( seeing as this is my first single DWC grow). Last time i started these seeds i failed to keep the root riot cubes moist enough and allowed them to dry out too much. Too much so that the root riot cubes compacted so densely that the tiny roots of the seedling couldnt make it through to the bottom of the cube. Now with that valuable lesson learned i hope there is no more miss-happenings and lets see what these seedling can do.

To stop the cubes from compacting this time round i have been misting them twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening just before i go to bed. Details of the solution for misting and the seeds environment are below if anyone is interested.

Nutrient Solution:

  • PH: 5.8
  • EC: 0.3 ( Back-round EC)
  • Temp: 22 C

Environment:

  • Lights On: 25-26 C
  • Lights OFF: 21-22 C
  • RH%: 50-60%

Looking good Grim,i neve use the root riot as iv lost seed down too them dry out to quick :pass:,rockwall all the time know.nice your doing a dwc with the Hubbabubbasmelloscop look forward to reading your updates,im going to be seting a flood too drain with Hubbabbasmelloscop & mapito, and some LST on the way aswell,so look forward to see your next update :vibes:kudo afn.jpg

Howdy Duggy sucks about the dang cubes. :vibes: for these next babies! You know for a product named root riot... lol they need to fix the density!! Just wondering what other options do u have to sprout seeds when running dwc?

Hello Kudo
Thanks for the comment dude. yeah the root riot cubes were a little tricky at first but im fairly sure i have the hang of them now.
Dude looking forward to your journal, make sure to link it to me when you got it going.

Hello jayar
Hoping for the best this time round now. I could have used smaller rockwool cubes but i heard that root riot are better.
There are also root it cubes which are also a different medium. Thanks for the comment man.

Week: 1 - Day: 3

Seedling is very much so on the leggy side of things, probably due to me being silly and forgetting to move the Led a little closer.
I was very surprised to notice roots forming at the bottom of the root riot cube when i went to mist the plant this morning.
This seedling is barely 3 days old and compared to my last attempt on this run which i failed, that seedling didn't even have roots showing at day 7.

I'm very much so looking forward to getting this little one into the DWC bucket in about a week and a half.
Due to the good weather and the slightly higher temps i have been misting the seedling twice a day.

Nutrient Solution:
  • PH: 5.8
  • EC: 0.3 ( Back-round EC)
  • Temp: 20 C

Environment:

  • Lights On: 25-26 C
  • Lights OFF: 22-23 C

My new Air pump and air diffuser arrived yesterday and I just wanted to show how it works.
I ended up buying a Hiblow XP 80 which from my research is one of the best and most expensive air pumps on the market in the U.K. and Ireland. In total it cost just over 400 euro including the two diffusers.
Why spend this much money you ask?.... That ridiculous you say!....

Well here is why it cost so much money and why i bought it:
First of all if you didnt get it from the pumps title this thing produces 80 litres of air per min into the res.
She runs at about 60w in total so not to bad for all the extra oxygen in the water.
The size of this air pump is about the same as holding a small puppy and it looks a lot heavier than it is.
The last great thing about this is for all the power and quality she is virtually silent, barely makes a noise.
You could have it going in the quietest library and still no one would ever hear it.
The only noise you hear from this is actually from the air braking the water.

So here is the pump beside a 6 1/2 inch net pot:

And my 220m long diffuser right beside a normal DWC air stone:

I made a little video to see the pump in action.

Il be back with an update in the next day or two, I will be transplanting the seedling into a rockwool cube.
