New Grower Hps lamp or cfl's?

I guess it largely depends on the space he's working with and what sort of ambient temps his area is keeping.

For a small space like 60cm x 60cm x 180cm - a large HPS will be too much. And a lot of wasted heat energy and getting rid of the heat.
I even struggled with an Un-cooltubed 250w HPS as the temps regularly hit the 90s. I don't live in a particularly warm place.

I've had most success with a 250w (ish) LED panel. Keeps a great temp in the cab and produces the same results per plant as a friend rocking 2 600w HPS's in a huge tent. (very different setups in the same sort of ambient temperature climate)

I think size IS important in this respect!

(i know .... "thats what she said!" lol)

Hey guys my seeds just arrived and i was thinking wich hps lamp should i go with the 250w or the 400w for 3 plants my grow space is 50x50x200 and i dont have heat problems .

I gotta be honest, from results and comparisons I have seen all over the place, I would go with LEDs.

I am currently growing with CFLs, and that is all I've ever used, but a lot of science points toward LED. You say that temperature is not a problem, but wait till you get that HPS fired up.

Why would I buy a 1985 Jam-Box, when I could have an mp3 player for the same money?

That's my take on it.

A LED it's a little bit expensive than the hps....im low on cash right now and i want to start my grow right away.

I was wondering wich should i buy the 250w or the 400w hps lamp my grow space is 50x50x200.

Don't ask me; I'm the guy looking at old turntables and McIntosh tube amps.
(But I went with LED as well!)

I'm not an hps grower so I can only say that I started my first grow with a 400w hps cooltube in a 60 x 60 x 160 and it was way, way too hot and the ballast was a pain in the arse too.

I might have got away with a 250w hps but I decided to spend £85 on a 240w led and added a 300w 9u red cfl for flowering. It worked fine until the really hot summer months when I had to add another led panel instead of the cfl.
