Hey, my second grow. Organic super soil of my making, indoor, tent. The seedlings are Mephisto Genetics Skylar White, they are 12 days out of the soil and have been under a dome lighted with T5 HO's, and they are just beautiful, large, bushy young ladies already.
My question is: I have an adjustable HPS from 500 to 1000 watts. How many watts should I start the girls out on, and how far away?
I light burnt the crap out of my first grow, so I am none too sure of my competence yet. Sure would appreciate your guidance and experience so maybe I don't screw the pooch on this one. TIA

Hmm, 13 people have looked at the question, must be too hard to answer, or somethin'.

500w 24"

Switch to 750w and 20" end at 1000w and 16 -18"

By the time you get to 1000w they should be well enough along and stable to take it. Hope it helps bro. Good luck and here are some good vibes

Height on hps is done by hand.. Turn light on 500w and put your hand over tallest part of plant. If it feels too hot for you its too hot for plant. If they are autos then you want to up to 1000w first sign of flower. And again check heat with hand. Hps gets super hot. If you have a tube to keep light cool then im not sure you will have to ask someone else. Also if your light is old i recommend changing soon. Hps degrades over time.

Also better to veg under a higher kelvin rating. Hps will stretch them more. Ya get fatter the shorter you make it.
