I'm just using this thread to introduce myself, as the presence of this sub-forum suggests I should do.

I'm joining your forum because I have started planning my first attempt at growing autoflowering strains and could probably do with some advice.
I will be growing outdoors as well as in a greenhouse in the delightful climate of the South-West Welsh coast (52° N).

It has been nearly six years since my last grow, a partially successful outdoor attempt with (serious seeds) Kali Mist and (dutch passion) Amstel Gold. The enormous plants did not finish flowering in time to beat the decreasing light hours and wet autumn weather. I got only half a kilo in total from my seven mould-riden Kali Mist, disappointing when they were well over 2 m tall and bushy. The Amstel Gold did not get close to finishing, heartbreaking as they were nearly 2 m tall too, and not much less wide.

So I am now back home on the 'ranch', not much has changed, although I have got my degree, and buying tasty buds is even more expensive than before. I'm fed up of spending all my dole money on £10 a g standard skunk, and I want to make use of the facilities and grow some of my own.

I would like to avoid more heartbreak, so experimenting with these autoflowering strains that have been making waves while I have been in university seems the sensible thing to do, as I should be able to harvest in August and beat the weather!

Hi!:lick:

Welcome Syn,

Lots of good folks here to help with your success. Lots of knowledge to be had. I hope when you grow I can check out your grow log. Have a good day/night.

Welocme to AFN! The best cannabis growing site (photo or auto) ive found on the interwebs. Great people and great info here. Everyone I've come across here has been incredibly helpful while not being condescending. Great vibes all around :beast:

Welcome to the Autoflower Network. :bong: We have an awesome Outdoor Section HERE.

As suggested before, give a good read through in there and elsewhere and you'll have a good idea about the basics before diving in. There are some great links down in my signature that are worth your time as well. But of course, always feel free to ask for help. No grower is left behind if they care enough. It requires effort from both ends and we have some really great growers here with a ton of experience that are glad to lend a hand. Take care. :D

Welcome to AFN.... Considering your growing environment I think autos are a great solution to your shorter growing season!! Do you plan on starting them indoors?

I'm not sure. Some people seem to be saying that you should avoid transplanting autos at all. I was wondering about a fluorescent lamp for the seedlings though, for the first three weeks.

hey syn welcome to tis wondreful community. i personally dont like to transplant my autos but i grow inside so theres no need to switch pots. but that sounds good using the flourescents to start them off and and after 2-3weeks transplant outdoors. i say this because outside there is plenty of things thatll beat up your little ladys and seeds arent cheap! i first threw photo seeds outside after germing a couple years and the plants would come up fine then after 2 days they would disappear LOL idk what it was but after wasting 3 seeds i started them indoors. let them get 3-5 nodes and i threw them outside and they were beautiful no problems this time. id sugggest using 2 solo cups like most people here do. just cut out the bottom on 1 cup then put it inside another cup.fill it with soil and when its ready to go outsidejust pull up the first cup and place gently into a hole u have arranged outside. i did this too and my outdoors plants got taller than me and the stalk never grew biigger than the cup. hope this helps id suggest starting a grow journal in either the outdoor or new growers forum. Good luck

I still suggest starting them indoors for the first 2-3 weeks. After they have a few nodes or around sex they'll hold up better outside. And you would need to gradually introduce them to sunlight over a few days before transplanting outside for good, this gets them used to the sunlight instead of just blasting them with rays when they're used to being under a much lower powered light. This is called 'hardening off'.

Yes, a flouro would work. Look for T5s or cfl. Cheap and very effective. :D
