Hello everyone,

Wish i could have a happier first post but i dont, i have a problem... I dont know whats wrong with my plants, the leaves are going yellow from the veins out and all the new little leaves are looking really pale :( I have attached a few pics of them.. hopefully one of you guys can give me some help. They are being grown under a 90w Sonlight LED that's output is supposed to be 400watts. I also have a 150watt HPS-TS light in the tent cos I thought they might not be getting enough white light, this only went in 2 days ago. My soil is a light bio mix and its ph is stated as 6.2 I water with volvic water, its 1.5l bottles and i treat it with .2ml's of phosforic acid to bring its ph to 6. They are 10 days old, i havent started feeding yet, they have been getting just plain water. I water from the bottom every third day, i pour the water into the tray and give it as much as it will take and pour off the excess straight away. I also have a spray bottle and i give the top a good watering once or twice a day depending on how dry they get.. The seeds are from the Short Stuff seed bank. Id really appreciate some help guys, i wanted the ladys to be healthy and lush!!!

Sounds like it could be your ph is too low. You want it higher than 6 in soil, I like to cruse around 6.4-6.6. Also I hate to be the one to break it to you, but there's no way that 90w ufo could ever replace a 400w light. I have a 240w blackstar and it might replace a 250hps. I'd stick with that 150w hps for now, you can still get great results with one.

http://sonlight.biz/led.html

Thats the url for the light.. it does give off quite alot of light and it wasnt a cheap light either. some ppl say they got great results with it. but regardless, as you say the 150 hps will do the business and im sure with the LED light i should have enough to get a decent harvest from 5 plants. How would i go about raising the ph of the soil? will the plants immediately react to it or do i need to give them a few days to adjust before they start to green up again

I should probably state that this is my first grow, ive only been observing my mates till now. he is stumped as well but the two of us only started growing this year.. up till now we have been consumers only lol

Also could be a bit much too soon if you have got some veg low heat lights use them nice and close for a while . And maybe invest in a tub of nitrozyme and mix with ph water and water slightly and try to refrain from foliar feeding early on as this can cause burning and yellowing of the leaves as I found out many times on first growing if things could go wrong they did on my first few attemps but hey that's how we learn . I have only been a member here for a few days and everyone seems really helpfull so any problems just ask and from looking about it looks like there is always someone ready to help who has experienced the same problems at some point . Hope this helps mate . Smokeyluke

Thanks dude, i dont foliar feed them, ive been trying to be careful not to get any water at all on the leaves when im watering. inevitably you get a couple of splashes but not much. the leaves dont seem to be burned, they seem to be missing something. the leaf looks nice and green away from the veins but around the veins its yellowing quite alot and spreading quickly too. Practice makes perfect on everything i guess, i just hate to see the ladys looking sick!

yeah ph in the 6.3-6.5 range is preferrable.... sounds like your soil might be too wet too... should always water from the top and then let them dry out a bit for a few days usually... depends on the environment of course...
how wet is your soil?

here's a ph chart...
ph vs uptake.gif
ph vs uptake 2.jpg
ph vs uptake 3.jpg

or three...

when you look at the top chart you can see you're locking out calcium potassium and magnesium... :smokeit:

you'll prob need to up your water ph to correct the problem... and definetly it once you start running nutes...

Hi JM, thanks for the info :) I stuck my finger down into the soil today, it didnt feel that wet at about 3 inches down. im not sure how wet it is at the bottom of the pot though, i dunno if the tap root is getting anywhere near the bottom of the pots so am i wasting my time watering from the bottom for the moment? Should i just use the spray bottle to water? Do i need to up the ph of just the water or the soil as well?

Also if it is a ph problem should i flush the plants with higher ph water or just adjust the ph and continue :) sorry for the barrage of q's but ive read some of your posts and you really seem to know what your doing!

yes flush with ph buffered water... always buffer your ph to 6.3 - 6.5 unless you have an issue (like now) i was thinking your ph was lower beore... but yes up the ph... vinegar is for down... use ph up if you have it... if not baking soda works and / or dolomitic lime...
no worries on the q's mate....

you def should water from the top... i suspect if you could feel the bottom 3 inches of the pot that it would be waterlogged.... a good way to know is to heft your pots... tells how heavy it is and consequently how much water... bet you pots feel heavy right now.

glad you been payin attention on the finger check though! :smokeit:
