Thanks man that's helpful! The problem with " a rough idea" is that each .10 change up or down is actually a 10 times more or less acid! each full point is 100x! an accurate PH pen is vital to growing weed indoors in any medium except organic, and even then, the best grows will come from PH'ing your water. It hurts to spend $80-$120 for a PH meter but it will pay for itself. When I started, all I could afford was a cheap pen. it worked for about 2 months then screwed up and total ruined a DWC grow and I mean ruined! Think of the value of the weed you do grow...... a good pen pays for itself in one grow!
The one I use has replaceable probes and I spend $50 a year to replace them. It will last longer than that but I don't care, i like the peace of mind knowing I have a fresh probe.
Your light is decent and not a factor i've grown a 3/4lb plant in the past with shitty Chinese burple lights. Your problem is not having control of the root environment, ie, PH and nutrient levels you really also need a PPM or EC meter, you can get by with a fairly cheap one, I've used an HM TDS3 for 3 years now. cost me $22 shipped.
These are tools of the trade for canna growers, without them it like a mechanic trying to fix yourt catr with a pair of pliers........... ain't going to happen..lol!
I guess I'm still set in my old ways drilled into me by my father..... He used cheapish soil, grow/bloom ferts, only ever phed the water once in the 20 years he was growing and he laughed at the idea of ec or tds meters and he would routinely pull 4oz a plant with ease..... However that was with photoperiod plants and he was so in tune with growing in the same environment for 20 years that he just knew what he was doing.... I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and realise I don't have my dad's experience haha!
