Help!!!! DWC ISSUES!!!!

If you are running Fresh HydroGuard at 2ml/gallon it is not root rot.

They should not bubble like a kettle and you should have millions of micro bubbles not hundreds. They just float to the surface not pop to the surface.

Be sure to get stones with plastic or Stainless Steel fittings.

It is not just about the agitation in the tank. It also has to do with the diffusion of oxygen in the water. The gas exchange take place on the surface of the bubble. Smaller bubbles have much more surface area for the same volume of air. This will get more oxygen in the water and that is what we want.

thanks man. I e been running hydrogaurd at the correct dosage. As for the air stone I have the golf ball ones. Can you recommend a decent brand or type of airstone?

These are what I would use myself:

Ok, so just looked at the roots and on a few of the buckets I have a very faint earth-like smell when I hold the roots right up close to my nose, also there is a very faint, white bubbly area on the roots on each. Again, the plants look healthy and they’re doing fine. Any ideas anyone? Oh, and when I touch the roots they feel ok and quite robust. They don’t break away easily either but when I touch them and rub them gently between my fingers some of the brown come off onto my finger which I think is just the nutrient stain. There is also new root growth on each plant. If anyone can help me that’ll be great.

HydroGuard is a live bacterium that forms colonies on the roots. This is what you are seeing and it is a good thing.

I was going too do a complete change but the plants look healthy and there LOADS of new root growth. I think it maybe the nutrients have given that earthy smell. I’ve gone and checked on the buckets again and now there is more of a plastic like kinda smell. I’ve attached pics of the the white bubbly areas. To me it looks like aerated bubble stuck in the roots as after a minute or so they disperse. I’ve attached some pics the first two are of the bubbly area, the other are of the new roots growth.

You see all of the lateral roots in this picture of healthy roots? That is what is missing from your roots? What are you using that is brown and staining the roots?

@Mañ'O'Green im using Remo nutrients. The reason for the browning is that I overdosed the feeding a few days back. I was using Reno’s online nutrient calculator so I could find out the dosage that I needed. I then cut what they recommended by then filled my buckets. I checked the plants the next day and they almost went into toxic shock because the EC was at 5. It’s my fault for not checking the Ec before applying the solution to the DWC buckets. I trusted the online nutrient calculator too much. There new white growth and the browning comes off if I run the roots between my fingers.

I have never run Remo. Is it the VeloKelp that is brown?
Yes it is. Their Calmag is also quite brown. The brownest I’ve ever used actually, and I’ve used a few different brands over the years. It also has a dirt-like smell and so does the micro nutrient.
