Hey guys. I have the start of my journal growing, a couple of you know about it already. I have been waiting for my two Northern Lights to break soil after being in there for fours days now. I just went to check on them and I could see the green just a little on one of them. I blew back a little soil and noticed that it had its first cotyledons as well as the first 'true' leaves. But she's still buried basically.

The other didn't sprout at all. Pretty disappointing. I think it was just a bad seed. I'm really concerned on whether I should start my other seeds or not. They actually look way better than the two NL that I got, just in seed form. Af Kush Ryder, Cream Caramel and Big Critical. Like I said maybe just bad seed as far as the one that didn't sprout.

And if you've seen my regular journal that's started in the Indoor Grow section you'll know the light I have. Very similar to the Black Star just not the Black Star. From HTG. Grows basil great! Starts several of veggies fine to put outside. It's sprouting the one NL although apparently I buried it too deep or something. I just have my doubts about the light even though it obviously grows plants. Could be way off. My ph runoff is low 6's. I have pics but I don't know how to upload them. I'm sure it's simple I just don't know.

I would love some help on all of this. Thanks guys.

How deep did you plant?Give them a little more time, the one you can see will get up there you might have just had it too deep.I plant my seeds 1/4" after soakin them in water for 12-24 hours, usually they crack by then and show a small taproot.I start them in jiffy pots with jiffy seedstarter mix placed in a humidity dome on top of a heat mat.I normally have sprouts above ground in 48 hours or so after planting. You know you have 1 coming up at least,do you have room in your grow space for the others if you germ them?

I also think it may be a planting depth issue. :stir:
I hardly cover my seeds at all when they pop and when they come above ground I add more dirt up the stem a bit to add stability and more roots...

Alright cool. It sounds like I planted too deep. It had a tap root about half an inch and I planted that about an inch down I'd say. Sounds too deep now. The other was just a bad seed, oh well. I germed in a paper towel then planted straight into 3 gallon smart pots. Pro nursery soil with miracle grow perlite added. The perlite has a low low nute % so I'm sure it'll be fine. As far as space yeah I have space for six 3 gallon smart pots like I have. Pictures are over in my journal in the Indoor Section There isn't a pic of the Auto that is slightly buried still just a few testers I have/had.. I'm not sure if I can move this or add it to that thread or not. I have one Critical Mass germing now. If it goes fine I am planting my other two. So I will hopefully have four total in a couple weeks. Just wanted to get a couple going and mimic that method.

Also, when I was trying to clear a little medium away around the NL I snapped one of the round leaves. Will that be alright or no? Thanks guys.

I agree, at an inch they were probably too deep. I soak mine till they crack, then plant 1/2" deep. I used to plant at 1/4" but found that many were breaking the surface with the seed pod still attached. Since I went to 1/2" I don't have the problem anymore. They stay below the surface a little longer and the moisture helps the seed pods to come off easier.

You might try and dig up that seed and if it hasn't sprouted a tap root yet, try and gently get it to crack. If it does, put it back in the soil and it may still come up.

Thanks again, Muddy. I have all of my pics in my journal in the Indoor Section. I also have one of the NL that was too deep. It has came up a little overnight. The other one I did dig up but it just fell apart in my hand basically. It looked kinda off when I got it in the mail I just wasn't sure. Oh well on that one. I have a Critical Mass that I am germing straight into the 3 Gallon smart pot and keeping a cover over it. I'm hoping I don't have some other problem. I don't think that I do. Is there any reason why this LED I have would fully grow basil and sprout several Cannabis but still not be right?

This is getting confusing discussing your grow in two threads. Tomorrow I'll merge them and move it to the New Growers forum.

Alright thanks. And sorry about that Muddy. I was wondering if you could combine them. You're all over it. Cool. What's your thoughts as far as the light though?

I don't think the light is the problem. At least I'm not convinced it is.

Ok. That's relieving. Even you being not convinced makes me feel better. It actually has another blue spectrum that the Black Star doesn't. And a few of the same spectrums of others and a few that are just a little different. I would be disappointed if it doesn't work that beast was the same as the Blackstar(almost $300). But seems to be ok. Thanks a million.
