Growing the male

Lets not forget about smell. If you are breeding for a certain taste or smell you want the male to compliment the female.

I also find flowering structure of males to be important. Larger clusters of flowers is a good sign

Some male can grow trichs. If they are 100% male and have trichs they are probably very potent

In an attempt to save on space many breeders only keep the 1st one or two males that show themselves.
Their theory usually being the 1st to pop and grow is the most important contribution from the male.
A good tactic for private breeders needing to conserve resources.
But those with time and space should select from no less than 6 males and 6 females to ensure a basis for good selection exists.

I usually see around 30% of regular seeds are males, so Grey Bear's suggestion of selecting from an "ideal minimum" of 6 males would suggest a grow of at least 25 plants.

Regarding lights and nutrients, I never need much pollen as I usually just pollinate a few lower branches using a little pollen on a brush. Indoors I grow males under 12:12 lights after sexing and give them limited nutrition, because I only need to harvest a few milligrams of pollen.

Apparently (in flowers and vegetables) some crosses turn out slightly differently depending upon which parent is male and which is female, so performing crosses in both directions might well be worthwhile in searching for a very particular combination of attributes.

Great thread! What's the simplest way to breed Fem Autoflower seeds. Subbed.

The simplest way would be to use STS, the safer way would be with CS... Good luck! :Sharing One:

i think the easiest way is to seed a whole plant. put the m&f together in their own tent and give a good shake and pull the male about 30 days prior to expected harvest of the mother plant ie around day 50.

The male a few weeks older then the female that way the pollen has been floating around in the whole early flowering stage with a last dusting when you pull the male.

I might be wrong if am please correct me so I learn from my mistakes... thats how I would do my seed run to get the most seeds as possible
:bong:

I have some questions....
I have 14 plants (auto fem) Ministry of Cannabis white widows @ day 29
Today I found 2 males. I started seeing female parts on most of the plants a few days ago - I dont recall if the 2 (now males) had any female characteristics.
Are these considered hermies? Or are they just males? Should I toss them or put them in my small tent to harvest pollen?
THANKS.

side note: 1 of the males - I was trying my hand at LST

I would totally harvest polem, seeds... Might even obtain feminized seeds (if its an hermied fem).

If its a true male... Still ... Got reg seeds. But thats even better!

You're indeed a very lucky person!

:)

Show US some pictures of your babies, will ya?

If its a true male, I'd breed with it. You probably shouldn't with a hermie as you'll increase the likelihood if more hermies in future generations is my understanding.
