Grow your own in the outdoor heat, maybe Australia!!

Sorry to all that had to read through my frustrated comments yesterday, on further thinking last night I noticed my climate is a little unique even for most Australian growers. Most of our population is along the coast and more so concentrated in the southern states where temperatures are usually a lot cooler than mine with daylight hours also being longer than mine. This probably does make it a little difficult for most seed companies to have any reliable sources of information specific for my climate! Our climate conditions would make up for a very small percentage of outdoor grows I'm sure! Would still be good if more information about a strains outdoor performance in known environments was listed on companies sites though.:vibe:

I appreciate that we finally got some info from DP but I’m not retracting my statements and I think there are PLENTY of growers with similar conditions; or with conditions close enough that this info would be of great use to them. The entire southern US and Northern Mexico experience extreme heat and lots of it is fairly or VERY dry. Southern Europe and Northern Africa have lots of dry heat as well as the Middle East and India. There’s plenty of growers within that large swath of the earth; and as prohibition, hopefully, falls in the years and decades to come this info will be extremely useful. Much of those parts of the world will likely never have dispensaries and patients will need to rely on growing their own. Yeah, we make up a smaller segment of the English speaking market with internet access and the time/inclination/ability to do the research and join forums. But the need is there. Also, call me a Debbie Downer but I can’t help but think about it this way.... Why is it we get this information after multiple message exchanges with no real useful information (and a reference to some blog post by a random customer) and after WE suggest the strains? While I appreciate the ‘thumbs up’ on those 2 strains, if they’re great choices why weren’t they suggested right up front BY Dutch Passion? Lol! I guess I’m a suspicious skeptic by nature.

I’m only going to have so much room this summer (unless someone wants to donate a couple grand for more soil? Lol) so I’m holding off, for once, on buying more seeds. At least until we get a little more info from some other breeders. I may be able to pick up 2 more strains but that’s probably it. I already have a small seed bank going and have NO idea how I’ll ever run all the damn seeds I’ve collected on impulse buys and received through freebies. Lol!

Hey grow what you like man!! If newguy420 is putting out quality at a cheaper price absolutely go for it!! I stick with the big boys(DP, Dina, Sweet, Delicious) because i have had tremendous success growing their gear. Please link to newguy420 (or PM me if its another weed forum site)

I don’t think he’s on any forums. I’ve asked him to join us here a couple times but he seems kinda forum leery. Anyway, his website is www.New420GuySeeds.net I’ve run across a couple of folks here on AFN that have or are running his gear and both of them were very complimentary of his seeds and service. I sent a money order one time and another time I used Venmo. Both times it was flawless and I received my package like 2-3 days later. He’s in the US and ships from inside the US. I checked and he does ship to Aussieland and some other countries. I’ve found a few posts on other forums where people griped that he was putting out other people’s strains as his own or just breeding some other genetics together - I dunno, something like that. WHATEVER. I don’t give a rat’s rear! Lol! All I know is that his beans germinated and the strains were extremely vigorous growers and from what I could tell, 3 beans produced 3 darn identical plants. What else could I ask for? Well, maybe a cheap price. Wait! I forgot. They ARE CHEAP!! Lmao! At $4-$6 per bean, I can hardly afford NOT to try them. I see he has a CBD strain and a regular Auto seed on sale for $2 each right now! Haha! I’ll bet that drives some of the BIG breeders C-R-A-Z-Y!!!

I’m hoping he gets a MAC cut and comes out with a MAC strain. I’ve been hearing so much about the MAC and I’d be interested to try it.

I grew some of his Himalayan blue diesel autos when I first started out. Nice vigorous plants:thumbsup: only trouble I had with them was catterpillers loved them:cuss: They were grown in winter though so not sure about heat tolerance

I ran his Super Dense Auto and Crystal Aurora Auto in the worst of the best and they both did well. The super dense seemed to thrive. We suffered some historically unprecedented and catestrophic rainfall in the fall and yet they both finished ok. I did get a little bit of Botrytis but I mean NO grower could go through what we did for 45 days straight and not get some mold. I was definitely impressed.

It doesn't look much better now :cuss:. The wet season has forgotten to show up yet this year. Usually beautiful and green this time of year instead it looks similar to the pic above!
Dry
Damn if that burnt up grass doesn’t remind me of here in August. Dry reddish dirt and all!

Where i am at 18°N my longest day is 13hrs and 15 mins. Have heard of guys in Hawaii putting Christmas lights on them for 1 or 2 hrs in the middle of the night cycle to keep in veg . Similar to gas lantern method. That wat they get more size and a longer veg . Breaking the night cycle is a way to let them veg longer . But adding lights outdoors is not possible for everyone.

Welcome to the discussion!

Yessir. Luckily I have that option but I’d rather not. I already have some solar lights that will work - they come on at dark and will stay on until the internal battery dies; and they charge up again the following day in the sunlight. They’re about $40USD each. They do raise your security concerns, though; and, like you said, that’s not an option for everybody. I prefer finding some methodology that’s more universally adaptable for everyone. On the other hand, if I have a strain that I REALLY want to run and it absolutely has to have longer daylight hours to remain in veg, I’ll put a light or two on her until the time is right.

Same here. Cracks in the soil so deep at times one can see the bowels of earth!!

I enjoy reading your journal @the green bandit. Growing outdoors with weather and bugs has its challenges but looks to me you got it figured out!! I don’t have the pleasure of outdoor grows at the moment but would really like to plop some aurora indica photos I have in the not too distant future.

It sure is challenging sometimes bud, but very rewarding when you're smoking a joint with your girls at the end of a long hot day! I hope you can get the opportunity to grow outdoors soon mate, it really is something special! The only bad thing about growing in the great outdoors is you just think you're kicking ass and mother nature will throw you another problem you had no idea even existed, all part of the fun though!
