Flushing: The Myth that won't Die

I have not flushed in the last two grows I went for it. And the taste an the burning of the bud proved it to me. Thanks pop22

Some great science here about the flushing myth and the scam that is brand name bottled nutrients. Start around the 10 minute mark if you are short on time.

Anyone have thoughts on the Nectar For the Gods "ripening flush"? You use Herculean Harvest (bonemeal) and Aphrodites Extraction (simple sugars and other things) for the last week or two. It seems like there is some science behind it, as they say it is supposed trigger senescence in order to simulate fall. I am trying this with my first grow as that is what they recommend, but I am wondering what the community here thinks?

botanicassassin on instagram explains it pretty well here:

@Arthur uses NFTG pretty successfully. Curious his take on finishing with those products.

I don't belive for a minute that anything you could add, other that maybe a particular hormone, will affect senescence or any other process. It's like people thinking that feeding high doses of of "flowering" nutrients triggers flowering. No, it doesn't there is no science to support it. I'll be live in this product when they show me the science to support it and the content of the product..............

and I think that whole long post is bro science made to sound otherwise , the same crap you read in nute company advertisements. When I'm shown science that supports these claims, i'll listen, otherwise there is no way to prove any of this actually works. Until then, i call bullshit..

I certainly have only a limited knowledge of plant biology. However, I don't believe that plants can absorb or adsorb sugers or amino acids. That's like people thinking they can add flavor to their plants using lemonade etc.......... ahh no can't happen.

I am super limited in my knowledge as well, and am also very new to growing, but I have been trying to do as much research as I can! Here is what I have found...

As far as I understand, the sugars are not meant to feed the plant, rather feed the microbes in the soil. Similar with aminos, they allow the plant to uptake more nutrients through the roots among other things. I found some videos from Harley Smith who talks about this kind of stuff, but using the RAW nutrient line (I feel it would be applicable to any nutrient line using the same sort of things, like nectar).

Sugars for plant feeding (especially during the end of flowering):

Amino acids for increasing the uptake of nutrients:

I would like to believe he is referencing actual scientific studies here, but I wouldn't know where to find them or probably even how to properly interpret them.

The Unofficial NFTG Bible and the OCGFam videos on youtube also mention essentially the same things as well.

I’d agree, there is science behind it...
like u I’ve been trying to do different techniques based on science & proof.
((Your plant looks great))

Blackstrap Molasses (sugars etc.) several times, but definitely “after” flush 2 1/2 tsp/gal.
& most important is utilizing “UVB” bulbs 10-12 W actual power per sq ft . (I’m a auto grower, so I’ll apply uvb on day 55 through day 90 or so, & keep going till i see 20-50 % amber Trics... this is personal preference for me)
My last grow of Tangiematic had with no doubt (agreed by several friends of dried bud inspection) a substantially larger Trichome count, with very intense stone).
A Med. grower in Montana I know
convinced me on UVB bulbs. I had already read up on several scientific articles on UVB, so I didn’t need much convincing !
The Molasses idea came from a well known
grow author, just can’t recall the name?
Regardless, Dry sift of the uvb applied Buds returned 27% Yld
And Dry sift of previously grown NO
UVB Buds returned ~22% Yld
same seeds same strain same supplier same type
same 160u micron filter, both broken up using same kitchen nut grinder, both Freezer frozen...& same gram scale. An increase of ~20%
This is about what UVB research concludes...
What your doing is great... trying to up
(grow & compare, switch back & forth)

Does stressing plants out to make them stronger make sense in the long run? Matt Geschke argues that the proof is in the harvest.

“Evidence shows that cannabinoids, specifically THC, may play an active role in defending the cannabis plant against UVB rays, and strains native to areas (best Hash comes from mountain areas) with high levels of ambient UVB radiation show higher levels of Δ 9THC.”

Study done many years a go 80s

Pate (1983) reported that cannabis exposed to high levels of UV-B resulted in little or no increase in cannabidiol (CBD) but high levels of A'-tetrahydrocannabinol (Ay-THC), while the opposite was true for low UV-B exposure. Their research showed cannabis is
physiologically and morphologically insensitive to UV-B radiation during vegetative growth and should not be applied until two weeks before harvest.)

I broke the rules, applied uvb for 35 days & 18/6...18 hrs day!!! & used 6x more than what some articles mention??? ((Almost forgot I used only
