Just an FYI do not use any brass, copper or aluminum anywhere in your system. Plastic and Stainless Steel or the only fittings that will not leach toxic trace metals into your reservoir.

Do you need any sealant to secure the top hat grommet?

I bought some top hat grommets off of Amazon. Ro water push fittings and tubing. Used a 5 gallon bucket and added a outside water level for a visual. I call it a nursey bucket to take a plant off the main line and give it special treatment. Right now I'm growing 3 Sativa and one Indica. I'll start feeding the Indica straight water before the Sativa so I'll hook her up to the nursey bucket.

Here is a picture of my DIY 20 liter reservoir. It was a transparent water container that I painted red (a real shoddy job with the spray can). I used pipes and fittings meant for RO installations to be able to setup valves, taps, etc. It works great with no leakages at all. The ladies love to be bottom fed - they drink up the nutes like there is no tomorrow!
