Can always have the lights turn off just after your home, then tend to the plants then, it wouldn't cause much stress at all especially with autos, and then your gf wont be blinded by the lights. Mind you it's always nicer to tend to the plants with the lights on.
You also must have a lot of power draws on that one circuit as your box consumes what around 150-180watts, shouldn't even make a dent on a normal circuit, but i presume older house wiring, and may a older flakey breaker to boot.
Also no need to move the lights up yet especially with cfl's the closer the better till things get warm, as the plants will now notice a decrease in light and will try stretching for it, even if you're trying to induce some stretch they will do that on their own.
BTW late to your thread but i put it on my subscribe list, and will watch till the end and so as long as nothing major happens "GF throwing out the plants" you'll most likely make it to the end.
definitely consider the flat white paint for the future though, $15 for a quart/liter and brush, and that mylar should be easy to remove, its just gonna take an afternoon to do.

UPDATE: Watered both girls today Run Off is where i need it to be so we are moving right along.. I'm wanting to get some other enhancements as i'm starting to flower what are some that's good to use during flower i'm using flora series now.. at half strength.. i may try full next feeding just to see how she reacts and see where we are at.. i want to get some length to her maybe she will stretch in the coming weeks.. also haven't seen any new leaves with holes in them i have 2 marked to see if it happens more to those or to other leaves as well.. but other than that.. All is well there starting to smell a little unless what i was smelling is my shoes sitting beside the box..

UPDATE: Gave girls another feeding half nutes.. everything is looking and coming along great there starting to smell.. so im going to have to do something about that.. and get these temps under control for the flowering part.. welp picture time..
I have a few question for the folks tagging along.. my plant is starting to flower and hairs are coming in what is an ideal humidity for my box..? ive turned the humidifer off opened up another hole to let in and out fresh air also opened a window to get a cooler breeze in through the box to combat the temp from the lights if that works at all..lol.. also my clip on led lights are they to close there 28w led bulbs.. just a few questions i have and feedback would be greatly appreciated.. other than that the girls are coming along and they are really starting to put off a smell..
okay ill do some DIY tomorrow after work i would now but my gf is in bed already.. also thats good to know i was super worried about the temp.. but you assured me of that thank you @Yeatster
