New Grower First grow kindsoil, autocobs, white widow

So im looking at white widow and theres something different about her this morning. Then it dawns on me, her canopy, the whole canopy, has stretched up about an inch from yesterday. Her 65w cob is 11 inches away and she is still stretching towards it. Is that normal?
Anywho, on to the next one......ive been researching a hydro-type grow. But i dont wanna spend a lot of money on it.
Im kinda toying with the idea of grabbing a lil blu mat system, see if i cant get it set up to semi-automate my watering. Id still hand feed any time the babies needed nutes but the blu mat would handle the bulk of the watering. Ill see if i cant find some journals or grow accounts that incorporated something like that.
Back to widow, shes lookin good(all things taken into account) and her lil budlets are trying to fill up and out! And the frost, this girl is cranking out the goodness!View attachment 1067427

Not sure how long you have been browsing AFN but if you are looking for some really good info and threads in the Blumats then @BigSm0 had a lot of information in one of the threads in the Cob section. I remember watching that as it unfolded and thinking, boy is this good information if I ever need it. Went through changes and setup and ....... wish I remember which thread it was in. The Autocob section has tons of great info so maybe someone remembers where it was.

The amount of information in the subsection alone can get just about anyone growing some fine canna. Strangely the grow light section seems to have less traffic than it used to. Noticed the same with slot of the sub forums ( hydro). Maybe the restructuring of forums a few months back just doesn’t make them as popular. Main journals, individual breeders(Mephisto)and battles seem to get the bulk of traffic these days.

If you are gonna go hydro go the whole way, get a cheap bubble bucket and see what happens.

Having to take care of a reservoir of water just seems way more daunting than watering soil. I mean i know it can be done lol, but its kinda scary!
I like the idea of the blu mat, take watering out of my hands, one less thing to potentially mess up.
Imma go read up on blu mats and bubble buckets, while i "enjoy" some random bag of mids from who knows where. One of these days, not too long now i hope, i wont have resort to that.

Day 46- white widow is doin her thing. Shes frosty and oily AF.
Im gonna pose a halfway rhetorical question here....can a plant get too close to a light, but keep stretching towards that light? Im elevated and that may not make sense....so widow is 10 inches from her 65w cob and shes stretching hard, like pulling up all her stakes and full on reaching towards the light. That flies in the face of common sense imo. Anywho, shes doing her thing so im gonna let her!
So after a few exchanges in another thread with @GrowingAutos about organic growing and molasses i decided to give widow some molasses. Gonna try and give the microbes a big ol boost as widow gets her flower on. Thank ya Growing, for that tip!!

Day 47- widow is chuggin along. Her buds are getting bigger, frostier, and shes sorta gotta stank going. Its like a peppery, citrus kinda stank and i luuuuv it!
All her deets are good, temp spot on. Rh has been creeping upwards over the last week or so but its still averaging low 50s and upper 40s.
Enough about widow, lets chat about the next round of grows.
So after reading about 30 journals and some other research, i think im going to take the bubble bucket plunge. Gonna try and get a lil hydro on!
I think im going to run 1 plant in a bubble bucket and 1 other plant in soil. Probably gonna try and recycle the kindsoil from widow, ive enjoyed the relative ease of this kindsoil grow so am down to do it again.
Im real curious about growing hydro, i like the idea of faster growth, potentially larger yields, and going soilless has its own appeal!
Ive got some time to get it all set up tho. Im estimating white widow will be done by mid july and i think my other girl will be first of august. Once they are out of the closet ill clean it up and reset for the next grow. I think ill be drying/curing in another closet so i can chop, clean, reset and get on to rd 2!

So from where i stand it was the other way around, i had to cut on her around day 8 or she wasnt gonna grow, 1st big cut was to split the stem so she could grow vertically, then i topped what was in effect only half a node, Since then ive trimmed like 6 leaves off.
Now the training on the other hand was stupid intense after her "surgery", i staked the sh!t outta her trying to flatten her out. No lie, kinda panicked, didnt wanna ask for help and just made a decision and went with it lol.
Now tho, seeing her budding, i cant believe she even got this far! Between the hiccups and my heavy hands i figured she woulda given up.
This is great experience tho, and its even helping make my other grow feel a lot smoother!

Edit- sorry for the book, im elevated as all get out. You mentioned mainlining, and i did aim for that sorta effect. I am going to try to do a full on mainline grow at some point. I think they look so sexy when they grow in all even and consistent like that, kinda satisfies an obsessive compulsive nerve in me

Day 48- widow is doin her thing. Buds are gettin bigger every day. So she has 4 colas, but because ive got her grown out so flat she has several "under" buds that are developing nicely as well. It looks like each cola has 4 to 5 smaller buds developing.
Oh, heres something i wanna ramble on about. So im doing a kindsoil grow, going totally organic. I havent used any straight nutrients, her feed has been mostly water-only. I have used growers recharge to power up the microbes and such, and i just recently used molasses for the first time.
Well, i have psyched myself out i think im going to add some calmag(using elemental dry additive from roots organic) on her next water day which should be sunday.
I dont think she needs it, in fact all things taken into consideration i think widow looks amazing lol.
She hit a speedbump a lil while back, it was a small double whammy. Widow had a lil bug damage to a couple of leaves and she started really digging in to the kindsoil which is a hot soil.
I could absolutely be wrong but i think she got a touch of nitrogen toxicity. She recovered in a day or two so i wasnt too worried. Also was expecting it as thats a common thing with hot soils, kindsoil in particular.
So im gonna say, to be where im at in this grow, i am super duper stoked! My gal has been relatively easy to grow. Shes taken the abuse, shes doing the thing, and shes not had any real unexpected nute issues.
Hopefully i havent jinxed myself now lol.

Heya afn, its time to ramble on....
So in like 48 hours time i managed to talk myself into grabbing more grow gear.
Im a month and a half into my first grows, sheesh, i gots the bug yo!!!!
So i pulled the trigger on an autopot system, a single pot for now. Im gonna try the autopot/megacrop combo with recycled kindsoil.
Then i got a bday coming up and the wifey is gonna spring for my bubble bucket setup. Got my eye on an under current 8 gallon bucket, ive been reading and rereading @Frenjamin Banklin journal and i love it.
My plan of attack is to take the bennies approach to dwc. I dont remember if its FB or another grower here in afn, but they refer to it as dirty water culture. Yep, im down with that.
Gonna get my feet wet with the autopot first tho, see what all that fuss is about!

Day 49- so i finally measured widow and shes a staggering 5 inches tall lol. I think ive created a weed bonsai and i luv it!
