Grow Mediums First Grow - Hydro/DWC Training SCROG w/ Bagseed Photos

Holy shit man. I'm blown away. I really only understood some of your long post. Going to have to print it out for the math of add back.
Question.....how do you determine which nutes to add back...n.p. or k?
I have been hitting hard on the first day of a rez change.E.c3.3-3.999 then I jus top off with water until end of week two. Usualy settles around 1.2-1.5 Then rez change again.
50gl rez 4x4 coco ebb n flow.

Beats the hell out of me! It's a Lucas thang! LOL!! Just kidding...

Using his example, I calculated the addback vs. the startup for the 33% addback solution. What you are calculating is each part of the ratio of nutes Micro and Bloom = 1:2

Startup solution for 50G res under HID: 0-8-16
0 ml GH Grow (0ml p/g - cuz it's NOT USED at all)
400 ml GH Micro (8ml p/g)
800 ml GH Bloom (16ml p/g)

------WARNING: THIS ADD BACK SOLUTION BELOW MAY BE TOO AGGRESSIVE AND MAY BURN PLANTS!!!!!--------

Forget the damned addback solution. It may be too agressive and I WON'T BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BURNING SOMEBODY'S BABIES!!!! USE THE SPREADSHEET BELOW IN THE NEXT POST AS IT IS MORE ACCURATE AT THE PERCENTAGE RATE SPECIFIED OF 33%.
SEE POST #25 FOR CONSERVATIVE SOLUTION!!!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Addback solution (standard):

1300 (target ppm) / 900 (current ppm)-1*8 (ml p/g of startup rate)*50 (gallons of res)=178 total ml of nutes to add back to the res.
This gives you the milliliters of solution to each part. At a 1:2 ratio of Micro:Bloom...
178 Micro and 356 of Bloom.

Notice the numbers are not appx. 33% of original startup solution, a bit closer to 44%, but this was the formula.
At 33% it should be 132ml and 264ml.

He stated it was a bit aggressive
. You may want to decrease the final numbers by 10-15% to reduce the addback. Check with your meter and find what works to get you back to the original target ppm!
I.E. target/current-1*8*Res Size-"X"%

NOTE****
This Addback solution (conservative): Per documented formula DOES NOT JIVE!!!!!! DO NOT BOTHER WITH IT!!
1-(cuurent ppm/ target ppm)*8*res size gallons
1-900/1300*8*50 = "X"

BTW, how does my EC of 1400 @ 5.5 pH in post #20 look to you? You'll see my startup is in line with the formula and put me right on target with the 0.7 conversion formula of ppm ("truncheon" if selectable on your meter)

Looks good. However I would say it may be a bit high for little beans. But then again I start feeding my girls on 1/4 strength nutes after first set of true leaves. So you may be fine. Actually an E.c 1400=700 +\- .....so yeah dude I'd roll with it.
Sorry for the jiber jaber.

Mine won't go in the bucket til after 2 full leaf sets after cotyledons and I have REAL hard water @ 395 ppm from tap. This will change as the cal and silica is used up.

UPDATED THE FORMULA POSTS ABOVE!! RELOOK!!

Something easier!! I may just delete the other...

Here's something better on the Addback Formula and it's more CONSERVATIVE!!!!
An excel spreadsheet with a built in calculator (2nd tab) and adjusted formuli... attachment!!!

UPDATE 11/30/13
STEP 2
CLOSET BUILD OUT

Well, I got the closet cleaned out and removed all the hanger rods and 1x8 supports. An expanding hanger rod was placed to temporarily hang the light. All the equipment, 2 - 30L tubs and the PowerGrow bucket, and all the other accoutrements were moved in to check size and placement. The 400w MH is fired up and all the gear plugged in to check circuit loading, temp, humidity, and functionality. I'm still waiting on the specialty PVC parts to build the growing frame. Pic below.

Ain't nothing fancy, but it'll get the job done!! :X's Evil Laugh x:

Hey TxOld Dude, looks like it will more than sufficient to do the job bro. "Muddy's Thumbs Up"

Still looking forward to watching your grow. I have no doubt that it will be very successful !

I just read your first post again, and you stated that you would be growing some Stone Dragons next. As soon as I get my photo grow fully up and running, that will be the next Auto strain that I run (Stone beans are in my fridge just waiting to be germed). I just chopped my first Dragon (Duurty Dragon) last Monday. I'm sure it is going to be some good meds.

I shared in my other post on your thread that I would be starting a grow journal with my first try at growing photos indoors. I also stated that I would post a link to it if you wanted to take a look.

Well shit. Looks like heat is going to be a major issue, duct fan or no, it ain't enough flow. Pulled the trigger on a Cool Tube XL, so now gotta wait for THAT. Temps in the room ran 90 @ 35% humidity, not good. Gotta get control of HID heat. Oh well, need to prep the ceiling anyway for mounting the duct flanges and move the fan into the attic (noisy little bastard!). A good thing though is that the HVAC return air is right behind this closet, so I'm thinking of adding a small register to improve the pull of fresh air into the closet every time the AC cycles. Understand that I have no concern about odor control as the only person that will ever smell it is ME, and there's no smell I like better (except maybe a pine forest!). Especially, as we have more skunks than cats around this joint!

I wish I had taken a picture looking out onto the patio of the neighborhood cats (10-12) at feeding time: kitty kitty kitty kitty skunk kitty kitty skunk kitty kitty kitty skunk........freakin' hilarious!

No beans...no joy...shit. "hahahahaha"

Yea, I had the same problem with just my two 4 bulb 4' T5s in a 4' x 4' tent. I didn't think the ballast would kick out as much heat as they do, so ended up stepping up to a 6". What a difference that made, I have to have it on a fairly low speed instead of full bore with the 4". It is much quieter than my 4" which I ended up installing in a small cab that I refurbished. (works great in there, but a bearing is going out, and it is even noisier now. Good thing it is in my garage. Have a replacement sitting on a shelf for when it does give up the ghost (better quality).

That should work great to add to your fresh air intake by tapping into your HVAC system. Nice that it is right there handy.

Man, I grew photos outdoors last year for the first time, and that is such a piece of cake compared to setting up a perfect indoor growing environment. Proper temps, air exchange, fans inside for air flow on the girls, maintaining proper RH. I love it though, as it is constant problem solving and adjusting as the weather outdoor changes. I live in the PNW, and it is snowing outside right now, no need for AC here right now my friend.

No beans! Sending bean arrival this week Karma!

Thanks Stick!

I got beans, just can't drop today. Was really hoping to, but all else considered, I guess it'll be good to have everything in place when I do. I'll use that Karma for my parts!
My grow frame parts should be here tomorrow or Tuesday, another week for the rest, and hopefully next weekend the "magic" will happen.
My pipe is getting restless and cranky! It needs filling. No meds for at least 90 days....yikes. Sucks living in a "dry" state.

BTW, NICE GROW, man!
