Grow Mediums First Grow - Hydro/DWC Training SCROG w/ Bagseed Photos

Sorry for being late! Keeping a close track on your growth. Love the way you explain everything with all the specific details. Although i don't know much about Photo/Hydro but i'm definitely ROOTING for you "pher Wiggle"

THE SEARCH FOR MIZ DUBYA
(We're going Bushy!)

Ok, I've made a decision. I started defoliation on Miz Dubya and LST'd her to the right side. All this because I have strong side shoot growth to the right but not so much on the left. So we're trying for a little symmetry. All but one set of main fans (full grown) was removed and most of the internal sucker leaves. This has let a lot of light to the interior. I've also added 1.5 ml (0.5 ml p/g) of cal/mag, 2 ml micro, 4ml of bloom, and 1.5 ml of Zone. I'm upping the nutes slowly to see what she'll take (also cuz I just defoliated and stressed her) and get these side shoots to kick off. Also, the roots are a bit thin, not that much growth. About 150 ppm is the water, the rest is Zone, nutes, and cal/mag.

We'll see how she responds. No pix since miz Dubya's a little shy about being this naked.

OK! OK! Here they are...bunch of pervs!

I don't know... She's a bit on the boney side now. :brow::brow:

Guys, I would like some opinions on yesterdays post, if possible. I need to get a couple pix up of the roots. They seem a bit "lacking" considering what I see of other grows roots. This may be one reason why she's slow. Kinda grasping at straws...

Thanks!

THE SEARCH FOR MIZ DUBYA
(We're going Bushy!)

Well! Finally! After an icy wind storm, we were without power since 8p Thursday night. The storm blew down 5 poles and took 24 hours near exactly to get it restored. Temps in the house got down to 45F, but unfortunately the wind was too high to light the fireplace (broken flue) and the chimney has a cinder block on it to keep the swallows out. I had 4 or 5 come in the house once when I heard a racket in the fireplace and opened the doors to see what it was. Too bad I got ceiling fans! :twist:

Anyway...
Took out another set of fan leaves to allow better light penetration to the side stems. The way this one is going, I don't want to "lollipop" (yet) or top her. Topping no, lollipopping later. She seems to be bushing up real good on her own, so we'll see how it goes. She has yet to show any sort of pre-flower. Hell, she's still doing opposite phylotaxy and probably won't show anything until the flip. And so, this is prompting my next thoughts.

Honestly, I'm getting to the point that I would like to get on with the quality grow and get off the bag seed. Miz Dubya is a photo and she's going to be veeeerrrry long-winded and I really don't want to spend another 3-4 months on this grow. This was a training grow anyhow, to familiarize myself with DWC and I need the closet in production (perpetual). So, I'm going to order the Dragons now and get them going. One problem is that I don't want to start the SD's in an HPS 12/12 environment. I have another HID fixture, but not another ballast. I might just have to get another.

Miz Dubya's going to need at least a couple weeks or more of veg before I flip it (IF I cut her short) and then God only knows how long in flowering.

What to do...what to do... :dunno:

Stick
Yeah, I'm just letting her grow out the side stems to give me more bud sites. I'll defoliate as we go along to thin out the non-essential leaves and under-performing side growth.

Thank you! And your absolutely welcome , Bro!!

Anytime, Bro! I love to research or "source" material.

THE SEARCH FOR MIZ DUBYA
(We're going Bushy!)

I've released the LST already as the side shoots on the left side have seriously jumped. Not what I expected! I figured to take a few days for a response at least. How much different hydro is from soil! It's probably the amount of light they're getting now and I've upped the nutes a bit. Today the nutes are down around 80 ppm since Saturday and her color is much better on the lower leaves.

As soon as these side shoots catch up, I think I'm going to flip her. I haven't had any responses or opinions so I'll just shoot blind here. I know she's a bit small, but I'll just take my chances. As I said, I don't want to spend 3-4 more months on this. She's already been 48 days since breaking ground. Her size is mostly my fault for the shitty water at first. I expect another 8-10 weeks in flowering at least. Opinions?

OK folks, for those who have troubled themselves to look, I'm going to stop posting here. Thank you for all your input. It seems an exercise in futility to post where there seems little or no interest. Either nobody is looking or nobody has an opinion. Either way, I'm going to stop wasting my time. I know everyone has their favorites and all and that's ok. Maybe I'll restart again when I start growing the SD's and it'll be more interesting than this bagseed photo training run. I feel sorry for the noobs who ask all the unanswered questions I've read recently that are ages old and still unanswered. I'll be lurking around still, I'm just done with this one.

So...
As a last update: Here we go...

THE SEARCH FOR MIZ DUBYA
(We're going Bushy!)

NO, I'm not pulling Miz Dubya. I'll be flipping her in a week or so. I've decided to bring in another 400w HID which should be here next week. When I flip her I'm going to be rocking 800w of HPS. Now THAT ought to get her done! I may change the res this weekend, though I don't see any real need to yet and may wait until the flip. Right now she's doing well and sucking water like crazy. She really doesn't seem to need the nutes though, which is very weird. I've added some more cal/mag to the res to bring the dose up to spec ( I was using a 1/8 dose) and she has shown no sign of trouble. Her color is way better than it was and her water uptake has been steadily increasing.

At any rate I need this one done as soon as possible and get the SD's running.

Hey brother, I'm not sure about the roots being too thin as I have never done Hydro/ DWC, but they and MIZ Dubya look very healthy to me.
I know she's a bit small, but I'll just take my chances. As I said, I don't want to spend 3-4 more months on this. She's already been 48 days since breaking ground. Her size is mostly my fault for the shitty water at first. I expect another 8-10 weeks in flowering at least. Opinions?
I wouldn't hesitate to flip her per your plan. This is more of a training run anyway, correct?
I threw a photo smaller than her into my flower room last week myself. I'm not concerned with getting any kind of yield, just wanted to taste/try this strain before I grow several outdoors this season.

:peace:

I know your frustration, Some grow logs get more attention then others, i dunno if its cause of the popularity of the poster.. or the strain they are growing.... or the setup they are using. This is the first i seen of this grow log. I personally have never done DWC but i know a fair bit about it, i will be doing it soon :) As far as this grow log is concerned if i was you... i would continue on posting because it will give you a reference to go back to. A grow log in my opinion is more for the Poster instead of the community because it gives you insight into past grows.

Your plants look really good, nice and lush, You mentioned flowering time between 8 to 10 weeks, I can't really speculate since this is bag seed, the strain is unknown. The flowering time can be as much as 14 weeks :dunno: Or it could finish out in 8 weeks.

I hope you keep up with the log bro, its looking good:Sharing One:
