New Grower First Grow! - Fast Buds: Cream Cookies

@Frank56 She looks very well indeed! The little bit of brown on the tips of the leaves is called tip burn. It means you are feeding a tiny bit above what she can use. So steady as she goes. Organics take much longer for the nutrients to become available so just be patient.

The leaves at the bottom of the plant are just used for nutrient storage at this stage of the plants life. It is completley normal to have some turn yellow and fall off as the plant uses what was stored there and the plant is done with it. I just clean them up when I get around to it. but do not let them accumulate on the soil surface as it can become a breeding ground for molds.

She looks great!

Thanks for the reassurance man! Yeah, the tip burn is what was throwing me, I knew it was a sign of overfeeding, but then the bottom half was telling me I was underfeeding - it's hard for a noob to strike that perfect balance when using organics I've found.

I'm going to continue feeding her pragmatically, and just clean up the yellowing leaves when needed. Thanks for the pointers

Day 48

A bit of an experiment today. So, if you've seen my pictures on previous posts, you'll have noticed that she's a bit.... leafy? I wanted to increase the airflow inside the plant, but I wanted to avoid defoliation where possible (I'm already losing enough leaves through yellowing). So, instead, I'm going to give the shitty branches a chance (I'll give them a week to see how they react). I know it's debatable whether to snip them or not, but I want to see what they do (if anything). Anyway, here they are after being bent as much as possible. I know it's not the prettiest shot, but I'll post another update on this in 7 days, see how they respond; if they're still shit, I'll snip em. There are 5 'runt sites' in total, and they've certainly seen better days at this point.

On a prettier note, here's the frost creeping in one one of the lower colas. Noise isn't bad at all, but she's definitely starting to get a zesty twang.

... and another canopy shot.

A noble endeavour on those bottom branches Frank but I doubt they'll repay your efforts :smoking: whether they do or they don't you'll find out for sure and know how to play it on the next run

Certainly inclined to agree lol!

Because she's so bushy, I didn't see these branches until they were 'established'. Next grow I'll definitely snip them off sooner. Still in two minds whether to leave them or cut them as I don't want to disturb her by ripping five of her arms off

Haha I think she'd thank you for it :tang: once they use more energy for growth than they bring in from photosynth, time to lop em off in my book
Though don't be following me as an example cos mine are hardly showgirls. I know now that I pull off too much too early and they lose overall vigour cos of that. I should let mine get as big and handsome as yours are overall before I go telling you what's what :pighug:

Day 50

Didn't think I'd ever see day 50 when I first started out, so an update is fitting.

Yesterday I decided to remove some of the dying foliage from the bottom of the plant. Here is the aftermath:

There's definitely some deficiency in there, as it's not just all yellow and there is some necrosis - I'm stilling leaning towards a K/N deficiency, but I've definitely slowed the issue down a good degree. She is now on full strength bloom nutes and almost full strength veg (3ml BioGrow and 3ml Bloom), and has been for the last three straight waterings, with no sign of new nute burn at all - she's absolutely gobbling it up. I think I could probably push the veg nutes an extra ml to full strength (4ml) and stop any deficiencies.

Anyway, time for some progress shots! Colours are different in some due to the mode my camera is set to - it picks up things better in certain modes.

5 DAYS BETWEEN THESE SHOTS:

Frost is really kicking into gear compared to a couple of days ago

Obligatory canopy shot (apical dominance... we tried and failed!)

Vertical stretch seems to be coming to an end now (luckily, as I had to adjust my cabinet to allow the lights to be raised higher). Top cola is 18.5 inches from the light at present and I'm ramping the power up to 100% if my temperatures allow it (back to 75% when it gets too hot), and will start to move it down a touch once I know for sure she's stopped stretching.

On a final note, it's looking like @fauxnacho is bang on the money, those lower branches aren't in the mood to repay my efforts :tang:

Day 54

Pretty happy with the progress over the last few days, she's certainly getting thicker. She's had a full strength feed yesterday, and there might be some slight signs of new nute burn, so going to run plain PH water tomorrow when she's due her next feed.

Managed to also find an offer on Bio Heaven (half price) so I've picked some of that up which should be here tomorrow. Heard great things about this product, so excited to add it into the mix.

She's got some purple coloration on the tips of upper fan leaves, and I'm relatively confident that's a genetic thing.

Here are some progress shots!

How's she stacking lads? :smoking:

Day 59

So, on day 48, I posted that I'd tied down some of the lower growth to see how they'd respond. (Spoiler: Short of a few extra trichomes, they didn't!). So, I decided to take a cut and trim it down a touch ready for a quick dry. No idea what effects this will have, but planning to throw this in a bowl in about 48 hours. Would be great to get thoughts on this as I have no idea what to expect!

She's been doing ok over the last few days. The yellowing is still an issue, but I think that's just become part of the plant's natural progression. I fed this morning with 1.5L of water, full strength bloom and 3/4 strength veg (Additives per litre: 1ml CalMag / 4ml Alg-A-Mic / 4ml Bio-Heaven / 4ml TopMax) - phed to 6.5.

Here are some close up shots of bud development, and a full shot of the plant. I feel as though she's still thickening up nicely, especially that main cola. Each top has loads more bud below, but it's obscured by the leaves (appears to be developing fine though) - it's not the prettiest shot and I've increased the lighting to showcase bud development, but hopefully the below shot gives an idea of lower bud development.

On a final note, vertical growth has well and truly stopped, so I have lowed the light to 14" from the top cola (75% power).

My initial goal when I set out was to get to harvest, and if I could pull an oz dry, I'd be happy. Starting to think I might actually achieve it.

Will achieve that several times over dude! :smoking:
Without seeing the trichs I'm only assuming that the wee lower branch will be clear trichs, immature bud, and maybe a bit unpleasant cos of that. Any time I took early bud the smoke gave me an unpleasant rapid high and a headache to boot. Not a good preview of the true bud of the plant and without a long dry and cure, the taste will probably be a bit green.
She won't be at her best but you'd still get your first homegrown high! If you go for it just expect a great improvement all round after full maturity and a good dry and cure
