New Grower First Grow Ever (NY)

Looks great. You have a week or two left for it to stretch a little more. You’ll probably start seeing resin in a week.
Thanks man, appreciate it! Might feed them their first flower nutes today after work. If not today, tomorrow. Think the pots are starting to get a little light

:yeahthat:I use npk industries RAW molasses. but i do like the sounds of that yummy too

I follow this theory which I wholeheartedly trust :

"What you need to learn about watering will come with practice. Here are the basic rules: Never let the soil dry out. Soil and or coco can become hydrophobic if allowed to dry. This means it repels water. This in turn will create dry pockets in the soil and the roots and microbes will die there. If your soil - coco have accidentally dried out use a surfactant to help re-wet it. I like yucca powder. Don't let soil remain soggy by watering too much too often. Root rot, damping off, molds, fungus gnats and other problems start in soggy soil. When you do water water the entire pot. How to learn when to water starts before you plant the seed. Fill your container with fresh soil/coco and weigh it (heft it) this is the lightest weight and consider it a dry pot. Now slowly water until the soil/coco will no longer absorb the water and run-off begins; weigh the pot (heft it) this is the maximum water, the wettest the pot can get. The difference between wettest and driest is the maximum water weight, for ease of explanation lets just say the water weighs 20 pounds. When the pot loses 10 pounds (half of the water weight) it is time to water again. There is an art to watering."

That being said something to keep in your mind i don't remember where i read it but it stuck with me . "you can't overwater by watering to much but can watering to often". let it dry back SOME my 5 gal grow bags will hold enough water for the first week if not two weeks. water VERY slowly
Do you mix the yucca powder in with your water/nutrients, or do you add it to your soil before a grow? Any recommendations on where to get it? Much appreciated!

I order all my NPK products from Amazon.
I don’t use yucca YET that is on my list next. I had copied and pasted “the art of watering” that is what I have used to learn how to water properly and I am still learning the art.

But when I do add yucca I plan to add to my water/nute mix and water in. There is yucca compost for soil also I seen someone talk about here bbl with that

Thanks Dale! I gotta say, up to this point — the most difficult thing about growing autos in a 5 gallon pot is watering schedule for the first 1-3 weeks. How much? And if you aren’t watering til runoff, the soil is inevitably going to dry out, no? I’ll get there with experience I think! Maybe I’ll have to go light early, and introduce Yucca when I plan on watering til runoff for the first time. Appreciate everyone’s help here - for sure!

you will get there. To answer your question about runoff. I am still learning and I have started watering to a tiny bit of runnoff 10%. To help prevent dry pockets. I water very slowly till soil won’t hold any more water then wait till it’s light again. For wk 1-3 it is about once a week for my soil and environment I use spray bottle in between to keep the surface moist. By the time flower hits it will be every 2-3 days for me. I would use the yucca once a week and water it. Looking good by the way :toke:

you will find your style and method in time

Thanks man. Just bought one of those air pressure water sprayers today. God, what a good investment that was. Nice slow and even watering. Fed veg nutes today for I think the last time. I think maybe you recommended that (into weeks 4-6)? Either way, we’ll see what they look like in a week - will probably be switching to flower nutes then. Thank you!

Day 38: Fed Veg - Kelp, Grow Big, and Big Bloom. First plant struggling. Second one loving life. Weird because I’ve been trying to do everything the same for each plant lol
