New Grower First grow and new to the network...

Heading back east for a couple days, I’ve got the reservoir feeding the ladies and a sister coming in to pH.

When I switched to MC I changed to greenleaf calmag pro as well and started giving the whole MC line at 80%. Well it didn’t take long for them to notice the reduced calmag, first GG and then the NLs. Ended up notching the calmag back up.

I’ve been defoliating quite a bit but I feel like there’s a lot more to do. It’ll wait until I get back.

GG, at 110 days, is going to go at least another week. She’s giving me all the signs and bulking up a little each day but I want more. There are some cloudy trichomes here and there, but still mostly clear. Over the past week she’s gotten really frosty and really smelly.

At 80 days, NL1 has also started putting on a frost. View attachment 995557 NL2 is just behind, maybe by as much as two weeks. View attachment 995556 Odd, they poked their heads out on the same day. These girls are going to finish flowering surrounded by 4 buckets containing seedlings for the next run. Those are going in the buckets the last week of January.

Have a great Friday everybody, happy growing.
I hope you have a safe journey.... https://youtu.be/R7jW8_2Us5c Head East they said.... BTW, the grow is looking awesome. Be careful though defoliating during flowering can be detrimental especially for autos. I was reading up on hormones and signals and the timing of defoliating. But like everything else... there are a million opinions and I'm just a newb. Peace.

What a lot can change in 4 days - I have some catching up to do. Here’s a quick update - I have a lot of work to do in the tent today — new reservoirs all around and NL defoliation.

So, pH problems while I was away. My sister came in to pH as needed and everyone was in the low 5s. Not sure what to make of it. The low PH did not benefit my ladies with their borderline calmag deficiency. I’m going to do half tap water and half RO water for the rest of the grow. I think the MC with my high ppm tap water might be causing issues. I also think the girls are spewing hormones and I may need to check pH more often for the rest of the grow.

All the ladies swelled up nicely but not as much as I hoped. GG4 marches steadily towards harvest. She still needs to bulk up more IMO, and her trichomes are running half clear half cloudy along the top colas. We’ll see how things progress. I’ll be looking closely from here on in for mostly cloudy trichomes with a sparse smattering of Amber on the top colas — when I see it I’m going to change out to 48 hours of flawless finish and take the largest colas. We’ll see from there.

Really running the COBs close to the NLs. 14-16 inches. But they look OK I think, other than the obvious calmag/low ph issue.

Feedback, advice, opinions welcome.

Thank you for the update DG. Yea that One looks like she is ready to go from every thing I heard and read. Cant wait to see what you pull off that thing. The discoloration and spots arent looking good. Did you mean you are going to just run water Ro/tap through them with no nutes? I'd say thats not a bad idea just to try to wipe the pallet clean. Im sure the PH flux helped attribute to a lot of that. Mine stays steady for the most part but every now and than I catch it sliping below the 5.5 mark. Enough that I check it everyday now. (Its happened twice) But Id say your not far from the harvest on the NL are you?

I’m guessing NL1 has about 4 weeks and NL2 maybe 6. GG will be harvested in the next two weeks. She’s not done. When she shows me her trichomes are ready, I’ll put her on plain pH water with flawless finish for a couple days.

The leaf discoloration is calcium deficiency. I lowered the calmag dose when I switched to MC a couple weeks back. I corrected the dose before I left, but when the pH sat low for a few days there was a calcium lockout. I think 6.25+ is the perfect number for calcium. Everybody will get a fresh reservoir today, with nutes. A day or 2 of fresh reservoir and proper pH will do them wonders. If I plain pH’d flushed them then I think the deficiency would just get worse. When I make up the fresh reservoirs today, I’ll use half tap and half RO water and see if that doesn’t help the falling pH issue.

I’m shooting from the hip on a lot of this CD. You’ll get to see my fuckups first hand — this should be great for you. I’ve learned so much on this grow, and my ladies have benefited from each lesson. GG had only half hearted training for the first 30 days or so — when she exploded I waged round after round of HST trying to keep her under control. And a lack of defoliation early on caused poor branching. For a long time, every leaf I removed, 2 would grow back in the same spot. The NLs really benefited from GGs 30 day head start. I will be highly attuned on the next grow to the training opportunities that each plant presents. I also learned that it can be tough wading through all the advice — each plant and each grow is different and what works for some plants will be wrong for others. Listening to your plants is a skill and this grow helped me to learn a bit of that. I’ll be running 4 different strains next grow and I’ll really be able to appreciate the different needs plants have.

Luckily they don’t seem to be suffering effects too badly. I wish i could offer more use than a positive vibe!

Thanks Medi, I appreciate that. I’m really stoked — it’s nicely going according to plan except in how long it takes. Vegging took forever and surprise! flowering is taking forever! GG has taught me patience LOL.

Very well said! Too many conflicting ideas out there, just do you, and see what works best in your situation. All plants react different, and the fun part has been learning and figuring out what they’re telling you and why. You’re doing an outstanding job DG and will be sitting on a nice stockpile of herbs in no time at all!

Quite admirable of you to take on hydroponics on your first grow! I think you’re doing an amazing job. Can’t wait to see your harvest.
