New Grower First grow and new to the network...

I’m a little late to the conversation but I’ve not heard of mammoth P or the optic foliar before. Are they compatible with Advanced Nutrients products? I was gonna use fox farm line but have decided on AN instead so I don’t have to do any fiddling with ph. I’m gonna do some research today on them. I want to try to dip my toe into hydroponics next cycle and I have a 50 gal drum of expanded clay pebbles to use as medium so I’m trying to find the best product line to use in soil and/or leca pebbles. Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

Pretty sure you can use mammoth p and /or optic foliar in addition to any product line.

I’m switching over to greenleaf mega crop. I need the simplicity of one nutrient, and I’ve heard good things about it. I’m expecting I’ll need to supplement with cal/mag, especially under the cobs. They have a bloom supplement in flower that I’ll probably use as well. I’m using GH Flora line now.

In hydro, get the botanicare hydroguard. You’ll never get the brown slimy roots!

I really like the idea of mammoth p, but we’ll see if my application for a second mortgage on the house gets approved (ha!).

It’ll be interesting to see what you think of the results. Supposedly hydro supercharges growth, you’ll be able to see if that’s true first hand.

I know, $625 for a gallon sounds really expensive. I hope it’s dispensed with an eye dropper lol. Are the greenleaf nutrients you are planning on using self ph adjusting? I’m really new to hydro growing and hate messing with ph. So if I could find 1 product that covered all bases(seedling, veg, bloom, micro and trace nutrients) and buffered its own ph, that would be awesome for me. Does such a product exist? I’m just in the planning stages now, so I’m trying to learn all I can before I start buying equipment, etc. The only thing set in stone so far is my medium will be those expanded clay pebbles. Did you get your new tent yet? Seems like you are overdue for posting some grow pics lol. It’s like porn for growers. I’m gonna do some research today, but I’m trying to get some input from the group also. Contrary to popular belief, you can’t believe everything you read on the web lol. Thanks for your input.

Nah, you still have to mess with pH. I’ll get some new pics up today.

Here are the ladies earlier this morning I think GG is budding. Well, they’re all probably budding

Here is GGs undercarriage. I tried to sort of lollipop but I probably should have been more aggressive. I have taken a ton of foliage from her and she is still unruly. Optic Foliar bitch!

Ok, took out the Vivosun 600w LED and installed the cobs. Holy shit the plants are green!

The Northern Lights are in back of GG somewhere.

Here is NL1 and where I topped her last week. Something fell on her while I was moving stuff but she’ll be fine by tomorrow.

Clay pebbles can be used as the only medium in a flood and drain or top watered system. I personally had poor results using that method. First it was nutrient intense as I had to go to drain to waste because the PPMs and PH were all over the place draining back into the reservoir. I had to measure and adjust after every water cycle. If you want to try hydro I suggest DWC. here are the basics:

The second hydro method would be coco coir.

Good morning @davisgirl You may want to defoliate the lower middle of those plants now. The reason is not to open light to the lower buds but to open air flow from underneath. Then after opening better airflow you may then want to open bud sights a little. I don't defoliate a whole lot. Two reasons first I am lazy and it is hard with my bad back to reach into the plants in the back and second the leaves are the energy producers for the plant. I want all of the little factories working to grow the buds.

Thanks MOG. After supercropping GG and topping the NLs, you would think I would be less timid about defoliation. Truthfully, I have taken a ton of leaves off her. Maybe I should work from underneath? And continue along the lollipopping lines? Should I take whole branches, or leaves only?

That depends. I like to make fresh frozen QWET from the popcorn buds so I leave them but they do take away form the main colas that will get a little bigger by taking them out. They are worthless as dried buds.

@Mañ'O'Green Thanks for the info. 4 smaller plants seems to be a good fit for my 3x3 so I’m thinking a 4 unit autopot kit per tent might be a good starting option for me. Coupled with ANs ph perfect, might be a little more forgiving for a new hydro grower like myself. I’m gonna try to learn as much as I can about all the different options before I make a final decision, I still have a cpl weeks. Thanks again for all your help.

@davisgirl Those autocobs really make for some nice pics. It really shows the natural colors of the plants, which is essential for troubleshooting. Your plants have beautiful healthy color. That GG is really getting unruly huh lol. Mine was as well so I really went to work heavily with the scissors. Since I know mine are photos and not autos, I know from experience I can cull heavily into the 2nd week of flowering without causing major delays from shock. I culled about 1/3 of the total mass for shape and airflow. Then I drew myself an imaginary Scrog line and removed EVERYTHING below that line, since it would only produce mostly larf anyways. That leaves me a nicely shaped plant with about a dozen good colas. The tent is so crowded already though, I think I’ll probably move them to the root cellar under an hps lamp for the last couple weeks.

Thanks Wes! That is REALLY helpful. I’ve been trying to make headway 10 leaves at a time, but it doesn’t seem to make a dent.

You have a STUNNING plant ... she is really beautiful! She’s rocking that 3x3 all on her lonesome LOL. Well done mate.
