I have the 400 HPS running. They said that mixing the blue spectrum in with the CFL's will just better it. From what I've read and have been told, they are CFL gready....Most of the strains when I read say like 40 to 60 grams, nothing close to a 100. Unless your talking about what all 6 will produce, then that would be sweet!

Hey jhn, like riz said, check out the DIY threads and get some ideas for the cfl's. You say it's not a problem to raise or lower them and it only takes a few minutes, good. But they're still far away from the plants. If you built some sort of mobile/flexible rig where they are attached you can get them up close. You have a lot of light from the hps, but since you have the cfl's, they'll be great for side lighting, getting light in around the future buds and under the leaves where the hps doesn't penetrate.
Check out this setup from KindredSpirit or this one from AndyBotwin for just two of many different possibilities for your cfl's.

Hey Noods Those Are Ass Kicken! Where would I put a light setup like that? On the wall, or am I taking the HPS out??? Im refering to the first one by Kindredspirit

NO! Keep your hps! That's some good light right there. I'm talking cfl's as additional lighting. If you get them in close to the sides, they'll love you for it. But from so far away they can hardly get anything out of them.

Here's some pics from last night. The one still has some yellowing on the tips, dont have any idea what its from. The one with the temp gauge in the backround, as you can see the 2 leafs are curling downward. Temps are still good til I make some changes later with the door open a few inches

Nice jhn :booya: coming along nicely mate.. I'm going to sub to this one

If you have the 400 running, thats what I'd concentrate on, it's a good powerful light with nice penetration, it will penetrate through leaves and light the ones below, if you have a fan running enough to be blowing leaves about then the 400 will be hitting the bottom buds too. I'd honestly lose the CFL's if your running a high powered light above as the one above will give you a decent harvest anyway. CFL's are known as efficient lighting, but in terms of lumen's per watt you can't beat a 600 watt HPS. CFL's and LED's don't have the penetration power of the HPS yet either and the light dims at distance so the first leaf the light falls on shades anything behind it. There is no harm in adding in those CFL's so it's totally your choice but the benefit they will give will be marginal as you have such a beast shining down from above. Just my 2 cents, i wouldn't be offended if you went ahead with the CFL's :peace:

You could pull near 2 ounces dry per plant if they are grown in ideal cirumstances and the 400 gives you part of that ideal. get em in big pots, control the heat, watering and feeding and each plant could give you 100grams dry. I've recently harvested an AK47 that i considered to be a week or two too early and it gave 42 grams dry, the rest that are in the tent i am expecting "at least" 2 ounces off of each apart from one which was a runt (in the genetics).

This has a week to go

HOLY S _ _ T Riz, Nice plant man! And thanks for the Tip, its all appreciated......... Ok, moved the shelf down, as you can see its not the flimsy wire shelf. I cut the intake hole out so the fan fits in it, and moved the side CFL's down an inch over the plants, I also added a bowl of water in front of the intake fan to boost Huidity, lets see what the temps are in a few hrs

Thanks Noods, I respect everyones Judgement here and will do whatever people advise, Im just a newbie, everyone mostly here have a few grows under their belt. I wish I had some extra money to spend, get a decent fan some other toys, but I've been out of work for 6 months due to a back injury, and Im barely makin rent right now. So I realy do appreciate the little DIY tricks. I was hopin to get a little extra money for bills and some smoke out of this adventure, I plan to just keep putting new ones in as I harvest and never shutting it down, Like I said, Thats My goal, wether or not it works out and I get the hand of it is another thing..lol.....Tomorrow the little ones will be getting 1/2tsp Grow Big 1/2 tsp Big Bloom
