Is your ceiling sheetrock or wood Squid? If you don't want to pop for a drill and holesaw get you a sheetrock knife with the serrated blade and handle. Helluva lot cheaper then the drill combo.
I just checked. Pretty sure it's wood, this house is somewhat old. It looks just like my bedroom ceiling in my closet so I got up on my bed and it's pretty damn hard and sounds like wood. I just noticed that in my closet there is a rectangle cut into the ceiling in the back corner, not sure what it is I am unable to get up there and check right now, but it looks like wood under the cuts I see.
Gotcha gotcha, sorry, that's what I thought you meant I just wanted to clarify. Now what about wires and the beams that are in the ceiling? Well I know the beams are I am not sure about wires. There is no light in the closet so maybe not. I'd rather not have to buy or borrow a stud finder either.
If there is any way you can get up in your attic go up there first and find where all the wires are at. Then just make sure you drill where there aren't any wires. You could actually drill down from up there also.
Stud finder it is. Sorry Squid it does sound like you might have a little difficulty getting it through. Just find the studs and if there is no light in the closet you should be fine on wires. Just don't put a lot of pressure against the hole saw when you think it's about to break through.
