Hey Squid, morning!

That was really funny what you did to your pop! Sweet!

Regarding the window, if you don't mind being without it you could totally frame it blocking view from the outside in (and vice versa). Then you'll just have to cut a hole in the wood or whatever material you used for framing the window. I wouldn't mind with the a/c. It works well doors open or closed (the difference is residual).

Hey Squid-
I have exactly the same issues. I can't leave the closet door open more than about 3 hrs a day. Here are some things I am doing and considering.

If you really can't bring yourself to cutting a hole in the closet ceiling, this may provide a solution. You would still need to exhaust this unit out the window, but it comes with a fairly stealthy kit to do so. No law against having a portable ac unit, right?

Doing this won't allow you to close the closet door, so it won't ever be stealthy. I think it will offset the heat build up from the tent exhaust.

If you are going to stay in that rented place for another year, you should consider exhausting into the attic. It's really pretty simple. Go to the hardware store and buy a hole saw, attach to your drill and bada bing, bada boom.
I put mine directly behind the light fixture and saved the hole cut-out so I can replace it later. It will need a little spackle and spray texture and paint, but it should be unnoticeable.
Failing that, I thought I might put in a small fluorescent light fixture in the closet that would cover the hole. This still won't enable you to close the closet door because you still need a supply of cool, fresh air. To address that, I am installing an AC vent in the closet. It's also pretty easy to do, just a pain in the ass.
If you decide to try the ducting and venting route, PM me and I'll try to walk you through it.
I think it will be the only way to go stealth in our situation.

If you choose a portable AC unit, please let me know how that works out.

I forgot to mention ... If you are in a really dry part of the country, you might get away with an evaporative cooler. It will really push up the humidity though.
Nice thing about them is that there is no need for ducting. Just add water and you can cool your room by about 10 degrees.

Hey JM, thanks dude.

The water I used was ph 6.33. I am testing runoff too, not the actual soils' ph with a probe meter. My tap water(that I leave out and bubble for 24 hours first) is about 7.7 if I remember correctly.
Should I just add my nutes and roll with it, plain BX?
Or still bring it down to 6.3 or so?
And what about when I am not using nutes?

Hey bro do your self a favor. If your tap water is testing @7.7 then the chances are you have some pretty hard water. You can use a test kit for pools that will tell you the alkalinity of your water.Hard water will act as a liming agent and will raise your soils ph over time.even when you adjust the water down with ph down.picture adding .25 of a teaspoon of lime evry time you water.likly not quite that much but you get the picture.Test that water! if its hard you can mix it with ro or distilled water. The resone for mixing it rather than just using RO or distiled is the same calcium that's making your water hard is still good for the plant in lower doses.why use cal/mag if you can provide the cal with your watering?good luck!

Thanks guys I greatly appreciate all the helpful responses.

@ Stashmouth>>>That extra A/C unit is right out, sorry. Great idea just not for me. It's expensive and not stealthy and uses more power. Thank you. though. I am kinda really considering the hole in the ceiling of the attic idea now. I don't wanna buy a saw though. I'll see if I can find a friend that has one or something. Also, I don't know if there are any wires up there and where the beams are located, because I don't wanna saw into either of those. Good idea on just saving the cut out hole of wood, duh. I could just glue that back in there and paint/texture over when we move. I think we'll be here until October 2013 so that's a while. I don't think there is anyway to have it where I can close my closet door but that's fine, it isn't a top concern. But the noise, heat and air blowing out of the closet is not very stealthy. And having more ducting running out of there and out of the window isn't helping with the stealth either. But if I could run it in the ceiling, that would help with a lot. The closet door stays open and it's dark in there. I have also thought about taking the closet door off(it's in the way anyway really) and hanging one of those bead doors you can find at smoke shops ya know. This will still allow good air flow but displace the image of the tent and all behind it, perfect :D People don't come into my room a whole lot but sometimes and it'll be nice to not have to worry about it and change stuff around every time someone comes over. Because right now I have to have a box fan to pull cold air from the A/C vent and towards the closet for temps. And it's not real dry down here for the evaporated cooler. Thanks for the help I will hit you up if I can find a hole saw.

@brokencage>>> I was actually thinking about that man. I am gonna figure that out. I will probably just go back to buying Gallons at Walmart, but the spring water this time instead of the distilled.

Thanks guys!

Hey Squid the hole in the ceiling works great. I did that with my ducting and the temps in my tent never go more than a couple of degrees over room temperature. Very stealthy also.

I thought you had AC to use on the house in general. I'm not sure about how it works but I think AC's have dehidrating properties. Is it healthy to the plants? It will definetly affect their transpiracy and will dry up quickly. Are you preventing this in anyway?

Cheers and healing vibes your way :)

Yeah I think that is where I am headed. I am a smart dude and quite DIY, but sometimes I just can't think of obvious things. haha. That's why I have you guys! Now I am on the search for a hole saw that cuts 4 inch holes. I don't know a whole lot about saws so if anyone wants to help on that too I am game. I don't wanna buy one unless I can get a good one for cheap. Or maybe I need one for future venting when I move anyway, haha.

Edit: @Hugo>>>Yes I do have standard A/C in the house, it will work out fine if I can just get this exhaust air out of the area. Thanks man.

The hole saw attachment for my drill was about $25 if memory serves. I bought 4 1/8" so I could run the ducting through.

So I need a good drill and the attachment? I should probably have a damn drill anyway. What the hell is wrong with me? haha
