New Grower First AF grow, Northern Lights, Crit Mass, Cr Caramel and Af Kush. Heeya!

Hey Squid have you used much of that promix in the past. I'm wondering how it stacks up agaist ffof.

Negative, First time and I already love it! Looks, feels, and smells great. I like how it takes water that I know already from my own experience. A couple of my favorite growers and buddies here use it(Muddy and Jackal), and those guys are really experienced growers and mods and strain developers da boot. There are a lot of people that use it here.

I have never used FFOF and never plan to... I just like the idea of my soil-less Promix. I can get it in locally at my favorite local nursery and garden shop, it's rather inexpensive($35 for a huge 60 lb. compressed bail of it.

Not knocking FF or that mix at all, I just have no need for it in my book. It gets used a lot and with great success and also with more problems than good from what I see. New growers see Fox Farms or hear about it and they run out and buy the OF because it's popular and burn the shit out of their baby Autos, not knowing what they're doing. Now if you hear and see about Promix and just run out and get it and plant, you'll be golden :D :dance2:

yeah I've been using the ffof for a long time and it does require a little extra attention. I still love it but I've heard so many good things about promix and it's cheaper. I think I'm gonna have to give it a try.

One thing about the ff. I did save $ on veg nutes:booya: but yes it will burn the shit out of a seedling if you don't know what you're doing.

Yeah I say it's far more worth it to have to start your nutes earlier than to deal with too much nutes. This way I can cater my nutrient regimen exactly how I want to. I know exactly what is in my mix because I put it there. Just my two cents, mate.

Giving this a bump. Don't think I have ever done this before so get over it :D And I want just general thoughts and opinions rather than help, really. It's a page or so back, and concerning the ph of my Promix. Post # 308.

Much thanks, people of AFN.

So about an hour ago I started my tests for getting my Promix BX into optimum ph range for my new grow. Muddy said that pretty much all of the Promix he has used has been about 6.9-7 right out of the bag. With this being a little high he uses sulfur to lower it. Depending on what kind of sulfur you get is to how fast it works. He has the pellet split pea type kind that take several days and I have the powder which is quicker.

Not knowing how much I needed to use per x amount of Promix, he suggested doing a test using three different cups/pots. Each one has different amounts of sulfur in the mix, in increasing order. I did my calculations and had my amounts that I was going to do for each one. Just to be more precise and make it a little easier IMO, I measured the largest amount out that I was going to use with a measuring spoon and weighed it on my digital scales. I then used weight to do the other two instead of trying to get tiny little amounts of powder in my measuring spoon. Worked great of course. :D

So...I then soaked each cup down with plain water ph'd at 6.33 on the dot. I tested each runoff expecting it to be at least high 6s, but they were all around 6.1-6.2. I know the sulfur didn't take affect that quickly and even if it had it was still odd it was that low. So, I grabbed another cup and filled it with straight BX, no sulfur. I checked my water again to make sure it hadn't somehow crazily wavered in 10 minutes, and it hadn't, right on 6.33. I soaked the plain cup of BX right out of the bag and it too measured about 6.1 or so.

I take it I just got a bag that has a kinda low ph compared to normal or what? Thanks for any input.

It's not an awful problem really, I am just curious. I am sure that the lime in there will bring it right into 6.3-6.5 range after it is wet for a few days. But then again, the ones with sulfur will probably lower. We shall see said the blind Squid. Tis why we do the tests first.

Any thoughts on the above.

yup... whats the ph of the water you wet it with? anything other than neutral (7.0) affects how the meter reads... and since the meter reads the ph of the moisture in the soil... my guess is thats what you're picking up.... my promix is always 6.8-7.0 too.... I never even adjust it... i just use my nutes to hold the ph required....

hope this helps... :2cents: :smokeit:

:smokebuds: <--- I'm in on the jay.... :toke: :smoke:
