New Grower First 5x5 Tent Grow - WHAT LED LIGHT TO BUY????

This guy should be able to point you in the right direction for a good cob.
@BigSm0

Not all cobs are created equal. Most cob lights sold on eBay have no benefit over leds on eBay. Basically what I'm saying is cob isn't some miracle light that will triple your yields. What can increase your yields is more efficient lighting and specific cobs like Cree and citizen are the most efficient (light per watt) cobs available. They also have a more full or complete spectrum which plants really need. The price per cob complete is not cheap but the benefits, growth, grams per watt, energy consumption, lower heat, ext is pennies in the long run.

I get it, am I able to purchase a high quality COB light pre-made?

I've been interested in the new Black Dog LED Phytomax-2 400 or 600. I've heard the spectrum black dog uses produces the best quality highest yielding dense resinous buds. Can anyone confirm this? I've heard they are the best grow lights?

Just throwing my two cents here ,a plug and play light is a simple approach to lighting but every light mfgr will claim their light is the best..anything you can buy can be made for way less money and will be as good or better,a good light dont equall a good grow,it takes a good multi approach plan to get a great harvest..if we are looking at total cost heres what im building this weekend with the help of @BigSm0 ,450 watts and 240 par lumens of citizen cob lighting for 530 dollars,this will cover a 4.5x4.5 area..I will be documenting the build in the DIY thread..IMO ,better than a 2-3k pre made

Really? That sounds amazingly more cost effective. How do the spectrums on COB lights compare to the "full or better spectrum" advertised my led manufacturers?
I can only use the supplied information .No first hand expereince yet. The spectrum graphs are easy to find online to make a comparison or base a decision off.theres at least one light mfgr that wont post the spectrum graph of his light for "proprietary" reasons but claims its "the best".. Maybe @arty zan @Ripper @pop22 @BigSm0 can share some info..

@Burr_nit you sure you wouldn't rather build your own lamp lol?!!:pass:

Red and blue are not full spectrum neither is the bands or how ever its worded, 9 band or 12 band. Plants need the whole spectrum, blue,yellow, orange, green and red.

For veg and flower we use the 3500k cobs.

Ya I don't mind if the performance will surpass what is on the market. I really want to get through highest quality bud so I want my build to have the best of every component. Along with my minimal but ever growing knowledge I should be able to harvest super high quality bud.

I live in Toronto Canada, Im a medical user and currently buy my cannabis from British Columbia, they have some of the best bud in the world! AAAA quality.

Well I just bought two AutoCobs on eBay this week from BigSm0. I can't wait to put these into use.
Today I will put a Mohan Ram and a Gorilla Glue under my new cobs (along with my old LED panels).
Also, I am sure BigSm0 will hook you up with whatever you want or can afford. Good luck...here try one of mine...

so nice...............

White Cobs are being ignored by the proprietary lighting manufactures as by "designing their own" they can claim to be better and demand higher prices! I'd love to see a Fluence put up next to a DIY or white cob light of equal power. i'm willing to bet it would be damn close if not being spanked by DIY at 1/4 the cost! I'll never use a burple light again unless I see proof that its superior, and I've seen absolutely no evidence to support that they are. They are all ignoring the fact that green light has been discovered to be quite useful to plants after all, it is NOT all reflected as suggested and leaves do absorb and use it. Guess what white cobs have that the "special leds" don't have??
