Hydroponic Heretic
Well, I am about 6 weeks into my first grow. I built the main box before I started. But today, I finally got to install my home built ventilation chamber and intake. The box is in the garage, which can get up over 100 degrees in the summer, so getting this done was very important, and for the smell, of course. Anyway, here is what I did.
4" ventech fan 190cfm, and 200cfm Phat brand filter. I installed them into a secondary box that I am calling the ventilation chamber. I sealed it up as best as I could, but it isn't perfect. I also installed a homemade duct silencer that I made by rolling up an 8" piece of carpet and taping it up to seal it. It actually works pretty well.

Then, I cut a vent into the top of the existing cabinet to allow air to flow up into the ventilation chamber. I TRIED to cut them in such a way as to allow a more even upward flow than just hanging it in the lower box. This also saves my space for growing..

Then, I cut the holes for the intake, and patched the previous holes I was using in the bottom. I installed a length of 6" semi-rigid ducting that runs from inside the bedroom closet, with a nice cover, through the closet wall, and into the box. The box backs right up to the closet, so it pretty much 90s right into the box and then 90s again to the floor of the box.
