Well, I am about 6 weeks into my first grow. I built the main box before I started. But today, I finally got to install my home built ventilation chamber and intake. The box is in the garage, which can get up over 100 degrees in the summer, so getting this done was very important, and for the smell, of course. Anyway, here is what I did.

4" ventech fan 190cfm, and 200cfm Phat brand filter. I installed them into a secondary box that I am calling the ventilation chamber. I sealed it up as best as I could, but it isn't perfect. I also installed a homemade duct silencer that I made by rolling up an 8" piece of carpet and taping it up to seal it. It actually works pretty well.

Then, I cut a vent into the top of the existing cabinet to allow air to flow up into the ventilation chamber. I TRIED to cut them in such a way as to allow a more even upward flow than just hanging it in the lower box. This also saves my space for growing..

Then, I cut the holes for the intake, and patched the previous holes I was using in the bottom. I installed a length of 6" semi-rigid ducting that runs from inside the bedroom closet, with a nice cover, through the closet wall, and into the box. The box backs right up to the closet, so it pretty much 90s right into the box and then 90s again to the floor of the box.

I then mounted the box on top of the lower chamber. I ran a thick bead of silicone around it before I put it down. I also taped the inside seams to try to get it sealed as well as possible.

Once I was satisfied with the mounting, I installed the speed controller inside the lower chamber, and put the door on the ventilation chamber. I used stick-on weather seal for the door seal.

Then I cleaned it all up and set everything back up.

The End... (or is it just the beginning!)

Here's a couple of pictures of my ladies, too.

Thanks! I like building stuff, so it was fun for me. It is working well, so far.

So the air is exhausted into your bedroom closet?
I have no experience with fans/filters yet. Is the air warm and moist? Will it possibly grow mildew in the closet?
I'm wondering for future reference. Thanks.

No! LOL

The air is pulled from my bedroom closet. That way I have air conditioned/heated air coming into the cabinet.

The exhaust goes out of the top chamber and just vents freely into the garage.

FYI- You always want the intake toward the floor, and the exhaust toward the top. Heat rises, so this brings cool air in at the bottom and pulls the heat from the top.

I just love it that you have a good DIY - hands on -attitude. I did make my grow room to a 3m x 2m x 0.8m cabinet too. Just bought a brand new one and introduced it to a circular saw after the installation. Intake from the bottom sides and exaust from the top. Checked your DIY -muffler for the inline fan. Awesome work! I might check if I could copy that idea. Stealth can come in handy in unexpected situations.

Thank you for sharing this project! :d5:
