The way I have found it is to pretty much think of peat as the in between coco and soil. It has the ability to be the best and worst of each of those mediums. It retains moisture and supports macro nutients a bit better than coco but the resources eventually run out and without providing something extra to get the plant over the finishline, they suffer.
In general, I see the pH in the medium tend to fall off during flowering and as such I up my pH going in late in veg kind of like coco. As far as EC goes, I tend to keep it on the lower side and stick around 600-800 because the peat I use comes precharged and the medium retains some of each feed while soil microbes work in the pot. Runoff washes some of the build up out kind of like coco but it would take a lot of water to flush peat and that would very counter productive for an auto.
