IMO,

Breeders releasing something they thought was stable,

Some genetics seem to be strong, just an observation is sativa Dom takes longer and then that's just genetics I guess! This doesn't always fit with grower or style.

Mix it all up and the results will be anything!?

My last grow they wouldn't change, I just kept trying down until they stopped trying to get 6ft high lol.

It also has to do with untested gear. If the breeders dont test the seeds and run them until they are 100% autos, then you get some seeds that end up still having the photo gene. Not all breeders fully run/test their gear because it can take years to stabilize a strain.

That's the main problem by far in my opinion, like prophetiko said, there is always a very slight chance of any auto beans failing to Autoflowers, but Id say for the well known, reputable companies, they may have 1 in 200. They do take the years that is required to cross a ruderalis to a sativa or indica and work it to a full auto strain.
These smaller guys fail to do that in many cases. Take the do-si- dos autos I have going now from puff puff pass cultivars. Its looking like im only gonna have 1 out of 4 that's gonna flower on its own. To properly work a line if I was breeding, I would only continue working with the 1 that did autoflower. This would need done over several generations until I wind up having them all autoflower.
I know puff puff pass has been attempting to get on here as a vendor, but until they do all the work necessary to get a true auto, I wouldn't recommend them

Buy F3, F4, F5 strains... Not a single problem so far.

Hi Friends
As a small private breeder I can say yes it takes a long time for a stable strain. But it could happen that there will be 1 of 1000 that didn't autoflower after a strain is a stable inbreed autoflower. I would call it genetic expression (I don't know if it's the right word in English)
I got good contact to different breeder and they all say this could happen also after 5 generation autoflower inbreed.

Yes I know there are much companies they sell seeds after 3 rd generation because that's the generation you will have a autoflower stain. I wouldn't call this stable in my experience it takes around 5 to 6 generation we can talk about a stable strain.

The other part when do we call a strain stable!?

For me a stable strain must have.
The same size
The same structure
The same high
The same taste
The same colour
...

And all the future generations have to fit the same criterion.

Agreed. We (auto growers) are just now getting stable gorilla glue and forum cut crosses and those strains have been around for decades. Mephisto just stabilized an illuminati cut of stardawg.. That cut has been famous for yeeeaarss. It really does take precious time to fully cultivate an auto strain. Kind of why I grow photos and autos.. Because these trendy photo strains like dosi have super heat in those packs that I want in my garden.. But I know they wont be stable in auto form for years, so I grow them now as photos.

Hey Prophetiko
You are absolutely right. I also grow photo strains side by side to my autoflower plants. There are some interesting strains on the photo side especially the old genetics and the landraces.
To mephisto you are right these guys do a great job.

Have a great day

I have a Cheese auto from Original Sensible seeds that is 54 days old right now and still no sign of pre-flowering (link in sig).
Starting to wonder if they sent me the photo version by mistake (although the speed of the initial growth would say thats a no).

Well, gotta take back what I said about the puff puff pass cultivars dosidos. .. They are now all flowering
They vegged a good 12-15 days longer than my Mephisto beary whites that I sprouted at the same time .
I think I could have grown these out to be absolute monsters if I would have had the space.
