Extraction Ethanol Purification of BHO and Dr. Babnik Learning How to Dab

Well how did things turn out Dr...have u figured what caused the differences
No, not yet.
I will scrap it later tonight (local time is 8 pm) or tomorrow. Then we will see if the was the EtOH purificarion that changed the texture.

Hey Dr. I am interested to know if you had the result of your experiment? Maybe you could give us a synopsis?

I have dissolved BHO in ethanol twice.
Both times the texture harder.

I did a new run today. Can you have a look? You too, @tripaholic88, @MoonDude and @derek420colorado have a look at this.

Have you seen this white matter before?
I have only done 3 extractions. The first two resulted in a yellowish, brown to black oil. This time i also got this white stuff.

I don't want to dissove the extraction product in ethanol until I know if this can be used or not.
On the other hand, the whole idea with using alcohol is to further purify the extraction product. I have taken the idea from the method of re-crystalization that is used in organic chemistry to get rid of bi products in organic synthesis. You may have done it yourself in high school chemistry, if you ever had a lab exercise synthesizing acetylic salisylic acid.

Another possibility is to wash away all water soluble stuff in dest. water, then dissolve the oil in EtOH and isolate it again.

I don't see why that wouldn't work...go through extra steps to get a cleaner product.
I can't see what you are asking about in the picture. Maybe a byproduct from the original solvent? further purging with ethanol may get rid of it.

Can't you see all the white? Particularly around the egdes.

thats just thinner wax/shatter i do believe doc... there should be no by product left.... different color is proly due to strain.....

Thank you, thank you. :thanks: Now I'm glad again. I needed your masterful eyes before I could rest.
Then I can go to work.
Grabbing a test dab before I do the chemistry.
