Hello there afn!! I have recently decided to do a grow and thought I had done enou gh re search and selected a good set of nutes but apparently I was dead wrong so I want to do a Journal need help post

So here is what I got thus far. I started these seed in gold soil mixed with perlite. They came up on the 1st of February. After about a week and a half I pulled the solo cups I was using as retainers from the Dr earth's pot of gold soil I had mixed with perlite and some vermiculite as well as about 8qt to a 1.5 cu/ft of the Dr earth's.

Anyways here is the list of the soil mix in 3 gallon smart pots

1.5 bag dr earth's pot of gold
8qt perlite
4qt vermiculite
8qt black gold (0.5-0-0 I think was the mix.

I was told to cut the Dr earth's with the black gold as the Dr earth would be to hot for the week and a half old plants to deal with so I did

As for nutes I was informed via research as well as other growers that the roots organic line was good stuff and the buddha grow bloom and trinity would be good nutes

I started feeding beginning of week 2 with a 50% mix of the grow and trinity alternating watering and feeding as the pots dried out about 4th feeding I went to full strength nutes feeding 2 times then watering once as I noticed the roots organics seem to be pretty weak compared to other products never got any burn but I noticed some yellowing in the bottom leaves

If I have done this right there should be 2 pictured attached of my 2 plants this is at day 24 of the grow

I recently went out and picked up some fish emulsion as well as some dr earths 333 liquid fertilizer solution I fed them last night with the fish 333 and some grow and trinity all according to the directions in tap water. I have no way to test ph and we have very little chlorine in our water.

I'm also under 24/0 2 600 watt mh lights sometimes I take the lights down to 75% to manage heat and keep Temps at about 74 to 78 at all times I can not get my humidity up though unless I allow Temps to dip so humidity is sitting about 25%

I think that covers it sorry if this is in bad Form and hard to follow I am new to forums

Peace and thanks for any hemp

Hello freedom4all! If you havent yet, swing by the introductions thread and please introduce yourself.

I do have a question about your soil recipe. I have never added perlite and vermiculite to a mix. Dont they work against each other?
to get your humidity up, you can always wet a bath towel, ring it out a bit(to where it doesn't drip) and just toss it in the floor of your grow space. Works well to up your Humidity, but please check it and rewater it daily, so it does not mold or mildew on ya. On your light, you can turn it up and flower at higher temps(in the 80's) and be fine, plus get more lumens to increase your flower production! Then you can get rid of the towel, as your low humidity will help the flowering process. Good luck and if you need anything, let me know!:d5:

Hi and welcome. I'm fairly new to growing auto's myself and had what I believe was your same problem. You are not mentioning using a Calcium/Magnesium supplement. Unless you are using mineral rich water, you've got a Magnesium deficiency and most likely Calcium too.

Check my link for reference material.

[h=3]Some rambling, CaMg def update, reference material[/h]
I use General Organics CaMg+ @ 5ml per gal for both watering and nutrition. Hopefully you can get some fast! If not there are alternative solutions for the magnesium deficiency which causes the yellowing and drying of bottom leaves and slowly works its way to the top. Here is an article about how to use Epsom Salts mixed with water to fix it.

http://www.cannabis.info/usa/library/5976-using-epsom-salts-in-your-organic-cannabis-garden/

To get the magnesium to the plants circulatory system fast, you can foliar feed (spray) them. Here's a great article about how to foliar feed. I use a drop of Dawn dish liquid for my leaf wetting agent (they talk about this).

http://www.flairform.com/hints/foliar_sprays.htm

If you want you can read my thread from the time I discovered till I'd succeeded in fixing the problem.

Good luck, I'm sure that lots of people will chime in as well.

I was unsure about the perlite and vermiculite thus why I only added a small amount as my main goal was to improve aeration and ace hardware was out of perlite at the time. I have a question as to your opinion of my nuteriant schedule and the overall health of my plants for 23 days old they seem quite small. I am just very on edge with this being my first grow as I'm sure we all were at some point right? Also can you direct me to any information about how much npk I can have in the soil at time of retainer removment

I'm going to start another lh plant using the same method as above but here is the soil I'm thinking of doing now that I know a litter bit more

1.5 cu / ft dr earths pot of gold
16qt perlite
Dr earth's life 5-5-5 added to directions
Dr earth's to mater vegetable and herb 5-7-2 also added to directions

My main worry is that this will kill a 2 week transplant on contact but I also feel that my original mix was not quite hot enough so I'm trying to find a middle ground. Something I tried researching but was unable to find much information on so thinking I could have made up with the roots organics I feel I fell short even then so that's why I added the fish emulsion and dr earths 333

Also is it a bad idea to mix in the 5-7-2 into the soil? My thought is that the plant will use what it needs when it needs it I'm quite skilled at vegetable gardening but this style of growing is new to me but I'm enjoying the challenge :)

Thanks for any advice

Hey rs thanks a bunch for that so to tablespoons in a gallon of water and water it in huh? Seems easy enough. I was actually looking at getting the general organics go box but have been in able to find it local.

Should I add the Epsom salts on non feeding days or add a little bit every water and feed for a few weeks? I normally feed Monday water Wednesday and feed Friday but I might spread out an extra day if the plants seem to still be moist but going off that data point how would yiu administer the salts THANKS A BUNCH

Here is the nutrition program I'm using now with fantastic results. I added Bud Candy during flowering per suggestion by another member. This program was also published by another member and I copied it.

Organic Feeding Program for Auto-Flowering Plants

Hey guys, see so many people looking for info on feeding programs for soil based Auto-Flowering grows and they always have a hard time getting a simple answer. Here is a very simple and easy way to get the accelerated growth you are looking for with the added bonus of being Organic resulting in excellent tastes and quality in your smoke. This method has been used for a long time with superior results with soil based AF grows. It can be used in the smallest garden to the largest. Hopefully it will help people get rid of the confusion about Organic Ferts and get them going.

Auto-Flowering Organic Feeding Program, AF-OFP.

Word of Warning, this process uses FISH EMULSION! It is kinda smelly but nothing bad, kinda sweet pungent smell, but it only lasts 24hrs or so after each feeding then goes away. If you can handle it your plants will love you for it!!!

The process is very simple, it can be used with any well drained soil or soil-less (peat-coco) mixes, here are the base lines for feeding and its schedule, along with a few different examples of what media to use.

MaxiCrop Liquid Fish-
This is your main nitrogen N ingredient, it also contains a lot of micro nutrients and other good stuff. It is a fast release fertilizer and is perfect to be used in a feeding program with cannabis as they are hungry plant fast growing plants.

Earth Juice Bloom-
OR
Roots Organics Bloom-
This is your main Phosphorus P and Potassium K ingredient, used to grow healthy large flowers, only use this during early onset of bloom til harvest

Earth Juice Catalyst
OR
Roots Organics Trinity-
This additive encourages compact branching, stimulates optimal bud sites, and triggers early yields. Conditions soils for better nutrient availability. This is very helpful in keeping your root zone healthy allowing plants to uptake nutrients easier which increases growth rates.

Super Thrive-
This little bottle contains an amazing amount if good stuff that plants love, vitamins, hormones etc... using it increases overall health which increases growth allowing the plants to reach their full potential.

Optional Bloom Boosters*
Roots Organics HP or HPK
This can be used to boost flower production... ONLY USE IF YOUR PLANTS CAN HANDLE IT!!! They are hot in terms of nutrients and can burn your plants if not careful. Test on 1 plant before adding to the rest to be sure it doesn't burn them.

Auto-Flowering Feeding Chart
This chart explains when to start feeding and when to stop and at what values. Mix nutrients according to feeding chart for every 1 US Gallon of water. MIX WELL. It is recommending to aerate the solution with an air stone for 2 or more hours before application and during application. Also stir again right before application. Alternate between Watering and Feeding - if you water, then feed the next time, then water, then feed, and so on. AF-OFP uses a lot of water, as it is imperative to water Or feed each plant enough to soak the soil completely and get a good amount of run off. Use some common sense and don't try to drowned them. Don't let this RUN OFF sit around!!! It is Organic and will ROT !!! It is recommended to use a drain table or similar to water and feed your plants, dispose of run off immediately!

This chart is intended as a general guideline for an average 9 Week Auto-Flowering strain, just shorten or extend it as required by the length of time your Auto-Flowering strain requires. These values will cover most needs, tho every variety is different and may require a bit of fine tuning. Feel free to experiment with the values with your varieties to maximize growth.

Growing Media-
A lot of people claim they don't need to feed while the plants are just starting out and in seedling stage... in most cases your plants will benefit from this feeding program if you follow it completely. You are supposed to run your plants with a perfect balance of food, a balance between an abundant amount and almost to much, not on the brink of starvation! Just because your soil has some food in it and the young plants don't show signs of stress, it doesn't mean they couldn't be doing better with just a little fast release food to maximize growth. The key is to know your soil and whats in it.

Here are some example of commercial soil mixes and their requirements with the Auto-Flowering Organic Feeding Program, AF-OFP.

Fox Farm Ocean Forest Organic Potting Mix-
This stuff is some of the best potting soil ever! Perfect right out of the bag, no need to add anything to it, it has a little bit of food in it but most of it is slow release and won't help your young plants very much in the beginning. Recommend start the AF-OFP on schedule, First feeding at day 3-4 from sprouting

Happy Frog Potting Soil-
This stuff is a bit cheaper then FFOF but made by the same company, it doesn't contain as much food and some of the other stuff FFOF does. It can be a little heavy at times, recommend mixing 3-4 gallons of perlite per 2cu ft bag of Happy Frog. Start AF-OFP on schedule, First Feeding at day 3-4 from sprouting.

Roots Organics Original Potting Mix-
Another great product, can be a little heavy, recommend mixing 1.5 gallons of perlite per 1.5cu ft bag. Start AF-OFP on schedule, First Feeding at Day 3-4 from sprouting.

Feel free to use the AF-OFP in other media products, research and find the best Organic Mix to use for best results.
If you can't find it then make your own mix,
A simple Home Made Potting Mix Recipe.
4 Parts Peat Moss
2 Parts Perlite
1 1/2 Part Course Ripe Compost
1/4-1/2 Part Worm Castings
Add enough water to make soil mix moist, NOT WET!!
Check pH and add Lime accordingly, to reach a pH of 6 to 6.5
Let sit 10 days before use turning every 2-3 days.
This mix can be a little hot at times, Start AF-OFP on schedule, First Feeding at Day 3-4 from sprout but test it on 1 plant, if burning occurs within 12-24 hours wait 1-2 weeks before beginning AF-OFP.

Hopefully you can use this to figure out how to leverage you existing investment and assure that things will go well.

Hey there, I am new here and am having some of the same problems. I have been looking into the Ca/Mg thing too. You mentioned you were worried about their size. This is my first grow too but mine is considerably larger. In not sure why. Here is my Lemon Haze this morning at day 27, she is sitti27,at 17" tall and about 16" in diameter. Good luck, I will be tagging along to see how it goes. The Muffin Man

Hey rs I actually saw that post just the other day my thing is that just the roots organics nutes seem to be very weak at 2-.25-1.5 when I see people coming in with 555 or 333 or 511 I feel I came in way way undergunned for the grow

Hey muffin man that's a good lookin chick right there can I ask what nutes your running I'm trying to go all organic or as much as I can :)

Hey rs thanks a bunch for that so to tablespoons in a gallon of water and water it in huh? Seems easy enough. I was actually looking at getting the general organics go box but have been in able to find it local.

I have not used Epsom salts myself, but I know that they work. With the CaMg+ I add it every time I water and nute.

Right now, mix up a batch and spray. Just remember to use a wetting agent when you spray and do both sides of the leaves, most of the magnesium will be absorbed from the underside... When you spray douse them, let them sit for an hour or so without intense light on them until it's absorbed. Dousing will wet the dirt too, so cover it to keep it from getting soaked.

You should see results within 24 hours, my rescue took about three days. After rescue and maintenance, the girls are ROCKIN'

If you use too much you can get a condition called 'lock-out' where the plant stops taking up nutrition. So I hit it fast and then waited 24 hours to see what happened. After the rescue effort, I'm just maintaining at the recommended strength for maintenance. I am having great results.

I'm sure that there is someone on here who has their own preferred way to use epsom salts, so try searching here and elsewhere for examples. I'm sure there's tons.
