DWC - Octopot - Drip Irrigation

I thought we could have a discussion about different methods of feeding and grow medium. Like the pros and cons and such.
I am ordering an Octopot in a couple days will have it next week. I figured it would ease the switch to hydro for me. And I like the concept. But then there's drip irrigation which is cheaper and i can go to Lowes to get all the parts.

So what's good wit' it
lets chop it up

Hey! I have nothing to add to the convo, but will definitely hangout and hear what others have to say about this. First time I’ve looked into octopots and I’m intrigued

What size/system are you getting? The smaller base which also takes the 6 gallon bag looks optimal, unless 3 gallons is enough?

Three weeks in with a 6 gallon Octopot. I prewatered (from the top) with half gallon lightly nuted and pH’d water, and germinated directly in the Octopot. Initially filled the reservoir to the lowest level. Sprout was visible on day 4. Trying to follow all the recommendations: 60/40 coco/perlite, 1/4 strength nutes since plant is still small. I upped the water level a little too soon and saw a bit of algae on the top of my coco, so backing off to level one for another week. First grow so still dialing in the temp, humidity and light levels. Trying to keep pH in the 6.2 - 6.5 recommended range. So far the plant is doing pretty good.

With the octopots, do you need to use specifically hydro nutes? Interested to see how it goes for you and your first grow with it, good luck

Octopots looks like a good hybrid system.
But it still suffers from the problem of what to do with the solid grow medium that we hydro growers thankfully live without.

Octopots claims about yielding greater growth than hydro needs more evidence. Those roots take longer to reach the reservoir than hydro roots, so I'd guess hydro growth is more profuse.

Octopots look like a souped up version of Autopots.

Most accounts I’ve read about are using liquid nutes, varying brands. You might be able to start with amended coco and water for a few weeks, but it probably defeats the purpose to top dress mid grow in an Octopot. I thought about powdered fertilizers to mix into the water (cheap initial cost), but I was worried it might settle out too easily. Octogrower on YouTube likes the General Hydroponics line. I decided to try Urban Farms All Purpose Veg and their Garden of Eden for bloom. I’ve already made some mistakes but I think she’ll get there. Last week I raised the height and dimmed my light but still see tight internodal spacing which is making it hard to do lst. Photo is day 28 from seed.

Did you get your Octopot yet? Starting anything? Inquiring minds want to know :coffee: I went with Octopot because I think I would mess up straight hydro, especially for a first grow. Folks do seem to love them. So far I tend to agree.
