Thanks for your thoughts.I had simular probs starting direct in the cubes in the system. If you start them on paper towels and put them in the cube when they've got a nice tap root, no more probs. Jiffy pellets are good if you want to start direct in your system.

it is isn't it?
Jiffy pellets have a PH problem and they tend to dissolve into the reservoir over time. This causes a bioload in the reservoir that is not desireable.
Have you ever looked at that tap root in the paper towel with a microscope? If you do you will see thousands of lateral root hairs that grow right into the paper towel fibers. then when you open the towel and then lift the sprout off you have stripped off many potential roots and shocked the seedling. Transplanting no matter how careful a person is also damages new roots at the time they are most vulnerable. It is best to start a seed right where it will spend its entire life. I am not saying you cannot do it your way I am saying it is better not to. Proving any of this is way beyond my scope of resources but I have had commercial experience growing organic vegetables. Any germinating system (I have tried may) that exposed the roots to potential damage reduced my saleable crop vs seeds that were just planted in the soil where they grew out. It just stands to reason that this would transfer to growing cannabis.
