Drying question

I'm drying right now as well and I do a combo of what many others have mentioned. You have the same set up as me. 4x4, Levoit, and a/c. Get yourself some of the mini hygrometers, a cheap moisture meter for wood, paper grocery bags, and Grove bags. I did a boatload of research, but everyone does things a little different.

I hang whole plant and keep the temp and humidity at 60* and 60% humidity. I'm at 11 days now and just put in paper bags.I use the moisture meter and when they hit 15% I cut into branches leaving about 4 inches of stem below the buds and put them into paper bags. I leave all the leaves on with the exception of lower fans. This will even out the moisture through the buds. I put a couple of mini hygrometers in the bags with a couple of the newer Boveda 62% packs.

When the hygrometers read 64-62%. I trim the buds and put into grove bags( the ones with windows) with a mini hygrometer. If the humidity rises in the grove bag, remove and do what the others suggested by leaving them out for a few and then return to bags. Once stabilized, leave a hygometer in the bag and use a cheap impulse sealer to heat seal the bag in addition to the ziplock. Good to go thereafter... I leave them in the bags for at least a month before toking, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do! two months is even better

I recently read a comment recommending using a pin type moisture meter to measure the moisture content of the bud. He called for between 10%-12% moisture content before placing in prefered curing container.

I usually split up my dry/cure methods to test each results and also so i dont screw up an entire harvest while learning. Ive hang dried and brown paper bagged, jar cure and im trying some curing bags this round. So far I found each have there pros and cons depending on season. I prefer wet trim to golf ball size buds and into brown bags for a few days. Im liking the moisture meter method of checking dryness but want to confirm the % numbers. I just tried bagging at 15%-20% and the jar hygrometers went up to the mid 70's. I put the buds back in the brown bags to dry some more. Ill try again tomorrow.

If you don't mind me asking: Which moisture meter did you go with?

I dont mind at all

Thanks olegren.

I like to see numbers and use those benchmarks to help me make decisions so this satisfies the engineering side of my mind.

I want to get a meter. Do you check the buds or the stems for moisture content? I seen some saying test the buds then I heard Grove bags YouTube video saying test the stem. So I don't know which to test? Lol

I tested deep into the bud so probably in and around the stem. Of course some are drier than others so i was really between 8%-15% when i put them into the Grove bags. They are sitting at 68%rH in the bags.

From the responses of the Grove bag guys, you may want to open the bags for a bit for a couple of days to get your humidity in the bag down a little bit more. There is a Grove bag thread under the forums with lots of questions and responses directly with the Grove bags guys.

Just watch the RH level in the bags - it should go down slowly over the next 24-48 hours. If it doesn't, or goes up, open the bags for an hour or so 2x a day until RH stabilizes in bag at 60-62%. IMHO, YMMV, etc.

Ill check them in a bit and see where i they are after 24hrs.

Ya, they were at 70% in the Grove bag so i opened them up for a little bit. I had a few that were 15%-18% but figured they would even themselves out, guess not. Looks like you want the majority of the buds to be sub 12% before bagging them.
