Hi all.
Just my little contribution to this topic..
I grew purple kush cbd, and blackberry kush cbd auto, outdoors in 12lt buckets, I was very happy with them.
I also did a blueberry kush, cbd, photo, outdoors, but not so successful, rot, and late in the year.
This coming season plan is
Honey peach cbd auto.
Afghan kush cbd
Red pure auto cbd
And either another purple or blackberry cbd.

Sounds like a nice selection

CBD is so cheap (and legal) to buy, it’s not really worth growing. I use a place that regularly has awesome sales, you can get a QP of cbd or cbg buds for 50 bucks or so….cheaper even so if you don’t mind trim (I use it to make capsules).
I picked up two QP's, one CBG and one CBD. They are apparently grown outdoors in greenhouses, and this was the end of their supply from 2021's harvest, which is why it was on sale plus another 50% off. I got the machine trimmed type. Including shipping it came to $11.75/oz., not bad. They arrived at a respectable moisture level, and overall the look/feel/smell is pretty good. I plan on processing all of it in the near future, if it makes a years worth, then I'll freeze some... I wonder if you can freeze gel caps? If not, I'll freeze the oil.

@Frank the Dank , if you've got a minute, I'd love to hear your recipe for your capsules. One thing I need to know is how to determine what an individual dose is -- how did you figure out how much to put in each capsule?

Yes, I’ve gotta find my notes on capsule making……I’ll get back to you this afternoon :pass:

amazing price - it makes me cry how expensive it is here, for 11.75 I would be lucky to grab 2 grams of CBD flower

It's sold in bulk and is it bit rough around the edges, it looks just like the pictures, which is to say decent but not like top grade bud. Hopefully I'll know more about it within a few weeks, at least in terms of how it makes me feel... I doubt I'll have any of my homemade remedies clinically tested. I'm just glad to have some material on hand to work with during whatever inevitable learning curve I go through. The ones I'm growing myself won't be ready for six months (including some cure time), so hopefully I'll have the process sorted out before I use those.

I did find an online edible calculator, there are so many estimations involved that I'll just shoot for getting close, but it's good to have some reference as a starting point. Between each crop having its own strength and each person having their own tolerance (and additionally I've read that CBD's impact is cumulative) I expect that finding the right does will take some experimenting. Slow and low, and then build up.

Alright buddy…..sorry for the delay. First things first, decarb. Yes, you still have to decarb cbd/cbg.
CBD: 290 f for 90 minutes
CBG: 220 f for 65 minutes

Now, I recommend you get a 100 hole size 0 pill machine from Amazon (capsules too). When making size 0 capsules, they’ll hold .3 grams of powdered cannabis product, if pressed 3 times. Use a blender or food processor to powderize the decarbed product. Use the pressing plate to compress the powder in the cap three times. This should fill the cap.
Now….dosing. Look at the paperwork that came with your bud. It will tell you the lab tested cbd/cbg percentage. Convert that number to a decimal….ie; 15% = .15
That gives you 15mg per .1 gram. So, since you pressed three times like you’re supposed to, each capsule will be 45 mg (because they hold .3 g each).

Hopefully I explained that in a way that makes sense, feel free to ask questions.:pass:

Thanks so much for taking the time to share that, tons of great information that no doubt lots of people will find useful!

Do you recall where you got the CBD/CBG decarb info from? That's really specific, I did not realize they required different temps and durations.

So far I've only found one "pill machine" on Amazon, this one, but it's outside my budget. I'll be doing small enough batches that I can probably do them by hand, at least initially, but I'm not sure how the lack of compacting/pressing would impact the calculations.

I've found some online calculators for measuring CBD levels in infused oil that are interesting. It's going to take some time for me to figure out how to get any process to a small production level.

So far I've gone down a different somewhat more complicated (than your method) rabbit hole, based on something I read and what appear to be easily obtained tools. It's my understanding that CBD is more easily absorbed by the body when paired with oils. Truth is, I could take one of your capsules and eat a spoonful of peanut butter with it and probably get the same result... but I decided to try decarbing directly into oil for a full flower infusion, and then without straining it, using the whole product in capsules. Apparently using marinade infusion or baking syringes, I can fill trays full of capsules by hand.

I'm going to assume my entire process is "lossy" and not optimized, and factor that in to my calculations by bumping up the numbers (for instance as I type I'm decarbing both CBD and CBG at the same time/temp together, so it inherently won't be optimal for both). But that's OK, I'm thinking there is a margin for error here. When the dust settles, it'll come down to me testing them with my physiology and issues, seeing what works, and adjusting from there.

Good luck, eh? LOL

So, in an effort to be vague….the decarb times came from a friend that used to own a cbd/cbg cap company, and this is the result of lotsa testing. I haven’t verified, but I trust him.

You want a capsule filler like this one….

You should be able to find one for 30-50 bucks or so. Make sure to get the size 0….unless you want twice as big, then get size 00. Also get the corresponding capsules. :pass:
