DIY DIY Automated Burping / Curing System - Derek Gilman style

I have a much smaller automated system. It's hooked up to an alexa plug we had laying around. Due to mobility issues I have an echo dot in main rooms. Now I just tell Alexa to burp the weed and she kicks it on then turns it off. I run it for 10 minutes at a time. I use air tight clear jars. I like the idea of going to the plastic. I didn't realize the light degraded the terpenes. Thanks!

@dubcream how much fits in each one of those?
I find that you can fit 1 to 1 1/2 pounds in a 5 gallon bucket, maybe 2 if buds are dense. I find it much easier to deal with burping in the big bucket, very time consuming if you have a bunch of jars. In the pic is a little over a pound of White Widow.

I had not seen this! thanks for sharing!

Hey guys heres a video out that Derek Gilman made, super interesting system he has for Automated curing :

His rig is with 5 gallon gamma lid buckets, and he loads about 2 pounds in each one. The way the system works is you put your dried bud in the buckets, and you hook up an air pump to the buckets, on a timer. ***I got a diff timer than from the pic I posted, the pic is of my V1 build***, now I have a digital one that I have set to turn on at 8am for 5 mins, and at 8pm for 3 mins. (The timer kicks on the pump, pushing air through the buckets, and auto shuts off). You install little valve outlets on the container and they exhaust out the old the air when the pump comes on, and then seal back up when it shuts off.
Being a micro grower who grows autos that yield ~100g, at about 179 grams a gallon I would be nowhere close to filling a 5 gallon gamma lid bucket. Gamma lids also make a 2 gallon bucket, but even at 2 gallons I'm still a bit short per plant...I'd need about 250g to make that 2 gallon work the best.

So, I went to the store and found 1 gallon airtight food containers and it works! I was able to fit a Seedsman Zkittlez Auto I just got finished drying/trimming and ready for cure. I now have three of these built, auto curing zkittlez, cream cookies, and cbd northern lights all autos

The system I built is:
- Aquarium Air pump, ideally with a built in manifold so you can hook up multiple containers: (NON AFFILIATE LINKS!) Amazon product
- Air line Amazon product
- Check Valves: Amazon product
- 3/16" Drill bit
- 1 Gallon airtight food storage container https://www.walmart.com/ip/Better-Homes-Gardens-Flip-Tite-Square-Food-Container-16-Cups/370961661
- Digital Timer with second/minute increments: Amazon product

I noticed that the pressure was a little too high when I had only one check valve as the outlet and it was causing the lid to pop up, so I added two more exhaust valves. If you are growing in DWC, you're most likely yielding more than I do with my auto plants in coco, so you'd prolly be able to just use the 2 gallon gamma buckets, which should hold about 1/2-3/4 pound. https://www.amazon.com/Gallon-Black...keywords=2+gallon+gamma&qid=1574473805&sr=8-5

My opinion:
- I'm not using boveda's yet...my material has been auto burped/curing for a week and is an amazing consistency, flavor/smell is weak though which I'm hoping will return soon in about 1-2 more weeks

I stumbled across this the end of last year and it has been a real game changer for me and my product, I would end up with 2 cases of jars to work sometimes and long story short it just wasn't getting done properly..
So this automation has been great i added to mine a set of wire collanders to hold the flower and I jar it up after 2 months to make room for the next. Huge time saver

Currently working on setting this up right now. However, I can't hear or feel much exhaust air coming out of the top of the bucket. I hear the air filling up, but believe I may not have a strong enough airpump. I've let it run for over an hour, and still nothing. I put a damp paper towel in there to raise the humidity, then took that out, and turned on the pump. After about 10 minutes it looked like the humidity went down on the hygrometer, BUT I'm not sure if it went down naturally or from the bucket.

This didn't work out too well for me so I went back to the jars. On the last couple runs afterward I really tried to dial in my drying environment so I can get in the curing range. In my opinion it has helped alot.

I made a couple of these too. The reason you could feel exhaust is most likely your seal isnt full, and its leaking somewhere. If you did 5 gal buckets with gamma lids that's where the leak is. You have to check where the 2 halfs are connected. It will need sanded some. I also put electrical tape along the top to make a tight fit. I have 1 sealed and the other leaks still. They take some fine tuning that's for sure. I'm looking for more easily sealed containers to try. The biggest question is what should your burping schedule be? How long, how often? That's where I'm lost cant find anyone that's does this.

Here's what I found in regards to a schedule. Granted this is from one person's experience, but it could be an alright starting point:

Nice, good guide hard to find info on this. Only a minute wow I did 15 minutes 3x a day 1st week, 15 minutes 2x a day 2nd week, and 15 minutes 1x a day 3rd week. I was much dryer than I want. I got a few hydration stones from raw. The work well in jars, and I put in buckets as well. Nice thing about them is them dont get your bud wet. Very cheap between $1-$2 each. Got off Amazon worth the few dollars. Thanks for the link bud!
