Indoor Dirt Bag-----advise

A friend of mine like to use deep totes for his container plants. He puts two in a container. They are wicked cheap, and they work very well for him. I looked at his and liked what I saw. He uses the cover that comes with them to put the tote on and catch the run off. I may give them a try on my balcony grow next year as some of my older square pots are wearing out. I might also go two deep on my balcony that is turn the totes so that the thin side is twards the edge. Any one else use totes for pots. Yea I know you gotta drill holes in the bottom.

used rubber maid totes for along time and talked about it on other forums you were at and they work great( a larger one i would put a air pump running air from the bottom of the roots but that is just my preferance also to improve forced airation and lessen chances of overwatering or just the lag in time soil/soiless takes to dry
anyhow i prefere to use landscaping fabric due to far better airflow and it is what i prefer when using soil or soiless base
on some smaller autos i started using reusable bags from grocery store that are the cloth biodegradable kind which work great for grow bags come w/ handles that will hold the weight and i don't have to make them just buy them for $1.50 if i was wanting to use 30 gallon containers i would still have to go to landscape fabric but for auto they work great and are cheap

I didn't get the idea from you but just goes to show great minds think alike. I do use totes in my starting room. The shallow kind with air bubbly pump and tap installed to change the water. I use them to start my plants and right up until they show sex. This way I can prevent iany males from going into my big bubbly tank. I find I get a little better height off the start using higher nitrogen nutes and lower lights. They seem to produce better with the faster start and my yield per plant went up in the main bubbly tank.
