So my grow room full... like really full my biggest plants only 11 inches of my light and and still only in pre flower at 8/9 weeks. Just starting... well at the beginning of getting small clumps of Pistles.

lower down there’s not much light some fan leaves have been fading and falling of to the slightest touch

now I want to cut some of the small beaches that have sported of the bigger stems. My theory is there not going to amount to anything at all and it’s almost wasted energy?
there’s a lot going on down below it’s a jungle

I know there’s mixed messages about this with autos so thought I was ask the autoworriors?

Pics would help. Genetics plays a huge part, but judicious defoliation always has a positive effect when growing indoors. Outdoors, it is a slightly different story.

@Mooregrow You will get every possible answer here as each person has their own style. I personally only defoliate for two reasons. First for airflow through the bottom of the plant. Large fan leaves that are nearly done and then those that block the air flow. The second reason is to make salves. I like to use the fresh green leaves along with cured buds some decarbed and some not in my salves. I think this gives the salve the highest variation of constituents from the entire plant.

If you have good quality lights and reflective walls the idea of getting better light penetration is not a major concern for defoliation. If you have weak lights then that can be a real concern. The proof is in my last Lil'MOBstar that had solid buds all of the way to the base of the plant with no defoliation.

This is a picture of a bud deep in the middle of the plant.

Genetics is important and this is one of the top 5 strains I have grown.

Strains northern lights. I have hlg quantum board and then a led full spectrum
The walls in the tent are reflective, but being so bushy I thought it wasn’t getting the light.. that’s why I presumed that some of the leafs had started to fade in colour and fall of?

I will post some pics of the bits I want to cut tomorrow when I visit the tent again:smoking:

My biggest plant is 42inches and still not budding do I need to worry and is so tall I can’t raise my light up any more and there 11inches or touching the light... don’t know what to do about that it starting to get light burn i even super roped a branch and it’s almost back at the hight it was :eek1:

I've don't recall any fairly fresh leaves falling off of my plants. Mostly when they are dry and somewhat crunchy, so use caution.

You might have to switch to a 12/12 light schedule to jump start flowering. Or perhaps it a photoperiod plant.

There ones at the bottom dying themselves it looks like, there not healthy they look like there drained....

I was thinking that but it’s showing pistols so that means in technically in the flowering stage ?
