Okay guys I need some input. Ordering seeds from Nirvana tomorrow for my first grow. I have my choices narrowed down between two strains: Blue Mystic, and Short Ryder. The reason I've picked these two is because they both have really short flowering periods. I read the thread on the life cycle of AFs, and plan to follow that next go around. But this time I just want some good bud ASAP, so I plan on starting flowering nutes once the babies show sex. I can't smoke at the moment for several reasons but will begin to be able to again in March. I have some good stuff on hold to get me by for a couple weeks but it's not going to last forever. (As we all know). I would like to harvest sometime the first half of April.

The dilemma I'm having here is that the Blue Mystic shows a flowering period of 5-7 weeks, and the Short Ryder a 6-8. Everything I'm reading shows the Short Ryder finishing first even though it has a longer flowering period (granted only by like a week). The Blue Mystic also is supposed to have less of an odor, which isn't necessarily required but wouldn't be a bad thing either.

Can anyone chime in on their experience with these strains? I've seen a couple people have grown/ are growing the Blue Mystic. I plan on ordering once I decide for sure what I want.

Hi BknBits,

Sorry can't help with experience on auto's as I'm new to auto's and about to start my first auto grow too, but hey, I know what you mean about trying to choose a strain... so many out there !! I was bamboozled ! But I finally decided on Buddha's Magnum as I am an outdoor grower and reports are they really get big (for auto's) and smokes up good. From what I am hearing most auto's are more like 8-12 weeks, but as I say, I have no experience in auto's so I'd be happily stood corrected. I've seen & heard good things about the strains you mention above so I don't think you'd go wrong. Am sure some of the guru's will step in with some advice for you soon. I am sure you are just as excited about your first auto grow as I am :goodluck: :peace:

Okay, so (slight) change of plans. I went ahead and ordered some Dark Devil beans after doing a lot of reading into that strain, it's size and yields, and time of growth all fit my requirements. Plus it looks bamf. It is very uncommon to see something like that around here and part of the reason I jumped on it was plain curiosity. If anyone would like to still comment on the others It would still be awesome, I'll get some eventually :)

That dilemma plagued me, for-ev-ver (<---little sandlot reference for you lol)
I could NOT wrap my head around how NO ONE seemed to be able to say how long it took an auto to finish.
Seemed like such a simple question, there HAS to be an answer.
And I'll tell ya, I searched high and freakin low for it, to no avail.

Then.
(You both said you were new, but I'm sure you've seen the name around) Muddy came out of the woodwork with an answer....and here it is.

Pay no attention to what the seed banks say regarding finishing times. If you switch your plants to bloom nutes as soon as they show sex they can finish in those advertised times but you will lose a good two weeks of rapid veg growth that takes place between weeks 4-6, which will result in smaller plants and corresponding lower yields. To me, it's worth the extra 2-3 weeks for the increased yields.

Yeah I saw that post :) I think I'm going to pop 2 of the 3 beans I'm getting right away. When one of them starts showing sex, I'm going to switch it over to bloom nutes immediately. The second I'm going to follow along with Muddy's advice and compare the results. I'm interested to know roughly how much more you can expect given the extra couple weeks of veg. That way I can still have something that's going to finish earlier and go ahead and begin cure while the other finishes up. I'm stoked :D

Yep sure have sister, Muddy is the man, much respect :grat: ! I think too it's always going to vary with each persons grow methods, temperatures / soils / humidities , nutes , water, climate (outdoors) etc, etc, etc. I am an outdoor guy, no idea or experience about indoor growing at all. I live in sub tropical Australia so have a great climate for MJ, but the grow will be different with each season and weather dependent. I will be judging my harvests on the buds, not the time, smae as my photo's. Like Muddy said pay no attention to the times the seed banks advertise and I think also, pay little attention to the yields some of them claim ??...some seem rather outrageous ??? :peace:

I think the yields on this plant were 400-550g/m^2 indoors. That seems nuts to me but I believe it can be done under the right conditions after seeing a few of the plants people have grown around here. I highly doubt I'll see that growth with my space and only using 2 gal pots and soil. Some of these guys with DWC though...daaang.

If you run your lights 24/7 people report faster growth and finish times also, what lights are you using? Adequate light is probably the most important factor indoors that will determine the quality of your weed, and yield. Its not an area you want to skimp on.

500g/m is with optimal conditions. If you get even 1/3 of that as a newbie, you should be proud.

That's what I was thinking. If I can even pull off 100g dry I'll be super happy for this first go around.

Edit: Skipped your other post! I'm going to be using an 125w cfl overhead and a couple 40 w on the sides. Best I can do with my space but I hope it turns out well. I might purchase a 200w cfl to replace the 125w when I start flowering nutes. 200w is the highest that my wing will accommodate.
