Hello & Cheers to All!

New grower here and thought I would share what I have going on, as I have found quite a bit of useful info on AFN. I'll apologize now if this first post is a bit wordy, but figure I'll put as much info up front and any comments/suggestions on what I'm doing will be greatly appreciated.

Ordering Seeds - My first time experience was BAD! I ordered from SeedSupreme on June 2, tracked delivery and my package sat at Chicago ISC for 2 weeks. Finally got it on June 25th and US Customs took my beans! Totally bummed me out. I notified SeedSupreme (I paid for guaranteed delivery) and they just shipped my replacement today, July 6. Meantime I figured I would order from another bank just in case - I ordered from Seedsman on June 22; got my beans on July 2. I chose both of these banks because they accept credit cards. Of the two I recommend Seedsman; they are faster as my order was shipped within two business days. Seedsupreme ships in 4 to 5 days from the date you order.

Growing mix & nutes - I'm using the typical noob stuff, Happy Frog Mix in 3 Gallon fabric pots. I'll be using the fox farm trio along with cal mag and root igniter. After I get thru my first couple of grows I'll try some of the other mixes and nutes.

Lights - I have two 300 watt full spectrum LED's I bought on craigslist for $30 each and a 1200 watt full spectrum LED I bought new on ebay (about $15 less than similar light on amazon).

Grow Room - I have a 2 x 4 closet I'm starting out in but I already know that's not gonna be best for what I want to do for ventilation & humidity control. I've ordered a 4 x 4 tent which will be here in the next few days.

Germination - I'm using soil method. Three seeds for this crop, about 1/2 inch deep. I did not pre soak my seeds, but did water the center of my pots with about a red solo cup of water and planted on July 2. Two of the three popped their little leaves up today!!! (July 6, about 90 hours later) I think the third will show itself by tomorrow as I poked my pinky a bit further than 1/2 inch when I dropped the seed in. The hardest part for me has been resisting the temptation to dig around to see what was taking so long lol.

So any watering suggestions would be helpful, as well as lighting. For now I have a single 300W LED light about 30 inches above them (gonna use 18/6). At what point should I turn on the second 300W? At what point should I put them under the 1200W?

Anything I've left out please ask...I'll be updating with pics often =)

Thanks Archie,
I tried one of the breeders (can't remember which one) but wasn't able to register with an address in the US. I don't know if that's the norm but as long as I got beans I'm happy for now. Thanks for the welcome & cheers!

Welcome and good luck.

I don't know of a European breeder that will ship to the U.S.without a seed bank but there are some Canadian banks or Nirvana that have their own designer strains. I went with ILGM my first time and felt I overpaid plus I was peeved at a lack of breeder information so my current order, 00 Seeds Automatic collection 2, is from the original seed store who had free shipping the week I ordered. I used a credit card the first time but bitcoin is much easier and places like seedsman offer discounts.

My first grow was in soil, but started in coir with bag seed. I used 3 gallon smart pots and I was watering with nutes every day until I burned one lol. Then once a day in flowering where I nute burned the same one again. Don't do what I did lol.

I'm subbed for this one!

Thanks Damien!

I've been checking out the bitcoin option and probably go that route on my next order... about a 20% savings from what I've seen, plus I'll be able to order from some other seed banks that don't accept credit cards. I won't start using nutes till the second week and start around quarter strength til I get the hang of it. Cheers!

Weird thing is seedsman is giving $25 off orders. I just ordered 00 seeds automatic mix pack [HASHTAG]#3[/HASHTAG] for $13 with shipping using bitcoin

As to your question of watering, I like to soak my pots and then wait until the pot feels light. Usually about a week for me between waterings in plastic pots, in fabric probably sooner. Water in a ring around the top away from the stem and do it slowly so the water gets absorbed. I do a couple of glugs then wait a minute then some more, if you don't the water just runs down the cracks in the soil and pisses out the bottom (and sides for fabric)

Thanks Rollin_along, that's in my notes for next grow - do a better soak before planting the seed. I was a bit shy with the water because of all the reads on too much water, but now I think I understand. All three pots got about half a red solo cup of water last night, just like you said in a ring away from the stem. Cheers!

Day # 2 - My third plant popped up above the soil around midnight last night, so yaayyy me! 100% germination for 3 seeds using soil method around 90 to 100 hours after planting. I don't think I put in my original post but the first day of germination I left the pots in the closet in the dark, no cover on the pots. After about 20 hours I turned on a single 300W LED and covered the pots with plastic cling wrap (used painter's masking tape to hold the wrap in place like a dome).

Since starting I've been using a small spray bottle once a day to "mist" the center of the pots and keep moisture up. All three pots were pretty dry this morning before turning off the lights so they got 1/2 red solo cup of water to drink and I used my spray bottle to moisten up the rest of the tops of the pots.

Pretty happy with them all so far, the color looks like a nice healthy green to me.

Cheers until the next update!

Day # 3 - They are still alive, so that's a good thing! I have run into a couple of concerns...all 3 seedlings started stretching what seemed kind of fast so I felt my light was too far away. I had it about 42 inches away so I dropped it to about 29 inches for now. I'm running a 300W LED for now, and I want to turn on my second 300W LED within the next week or so. Here's a pic of how tall they shot up

All 3 are about the same and I think still a good healthy green color. They were thirsty again this morning so they all got another 2/3 of a red solo cup of water. As a note I'm using the PH balanced happy frog so I've not been too concerned about PH yet, but I have been letting the water sit for 24 hours to be safe. I'm hoping I can give them all a good soaking around day 6 or 7 and planning on giving them a little bit of root igniter then. I've read in other forums it's a good idea and any thoughts for or against please chime in.

I've also been trying to get humidity constant. I live in Kentucky so it's usually pretty high. I was able to get a good size dehumidifier from a friend yesterday so it's kind of floating between 48-53% with the closet door slightly open. Not good at night so I'm gonna have to do some stealth stuff on my windows tonight. My 4x4 tent should arrive in the next couple of days so I'll be working on dialing my environmental stuff a lot better this week.

Any suggestions on when to add more lights and the distance are welcome.

Cheers to all!
