Day 33. Speed Bud (Female Seeds). Still on 1/4 strength nutes. Not a very big eater at all. Think I am seeing the start of some flowers, too. Said 35 days to flower on the site, so looks to be right on schedule.

ppm readers are less than 4 quid delivered off the ebay
The cheap ones are perfect for what I use mine for - I really don't care how accurate it is, so long as it's consistent. I know what the concentrations are when I mix the nutes. Where it comes in handy is in monitoring trends in PPM changes over time.

On the subject of PPM, I have a question for my fellow stoners..

I have read on many many places that the ideal situation is to have a PPM level that stays pretty much the same as the plant takes up water. This "indicating that it is taking up water and nutrients at the same pace" as a way to determine that you have found the ideal nutrient mix for that stage in your plant's growth.

This doesn't really seem to make sense. Water uptake and nutrient uptake occur through two separate mechanisms. They are not joined at the hip. Maybe I am wrong, but the only way you are going to know if the mixture is right is to listen to the lady you are feeding. She won't hesitate to tell you when you fuck up. And she'll usually tell you exactly what's wrong, too.

Is there any real truth to that "steady PPM" stuff? Mine declines at a predictable, brisk, pace. Yet my plants look rather healthy to me. In fact, some of the lower leaves have nute burn! I can't imagine what they would look like if I tried to force the PPM to level off.

Hi all!
:pass:

@Mike20132 ppm should shift at different rates, remember that the actual plant will evaporate water at different rates as it grows. I think you would have to be extremely lucky to have a stable ppm all the way through, that's just my opinion, there may be some solid science at play, but that would probably mean monitoring air quality to calculate how much water is being lost from both evaporation and what the plant is giving off to get a presumed ppm ratio for the next days nute use lol

Personally I like to see the swing, tells me what the plant is doing and I make choices based on that feedback

When i top up my DWC buckets i readjust, in the meantime i record the fluctuations but i dont "fiddle " at all

So.
Which section should I put my "airstones in coco" experiment?
I figure my Northern Lights' roots are far enough down in her 5 gallon bucket to reach the first airstone, So they got hooked to the airpump after giving her a heavy feeding to soak the stones.(Heavy as in a larger volume in total, same measurements of MC and Cal-Mag, and 1/4 dose of Silica per gallon)

Should be interesting to see how it works.
To me, Anyway. I like to experiment.
