Dunno about the chemical tests, but if the distilling process is working and it's pure water then most meters will have trouble getting an accurate reading. Might be worth searching around a bit to see if the chemical kits have a similar issue.

Im using the standard general hydro kit, and it's pretty accurate for what it is. Chem tests don't have the same problem as the electric meters. They dont rely on at least a little conductivity to function..

Not really relevant, more of a tangent, but I imagine litmus paper would make a good tester for distilled or R/O since it works similar and doesn't rely on conductivity, either.
My tap water from the sink is 6.5 ph and 65 ppm Soft water, some people say my town the best town too grow lol. We have too ad calcium too bring it up too 250 ppm ec of 0.4 and then add nutes.
