haha knew that was the one.
i still cant believe you pull that shit from a 15L pot mate. giving it a go next time though.
ill still have my nft on at my mates but gonna do a single autopot in the attic aswell.
i know the system clearly works but i just cant get head around how? because im used to nft its hard for me to go backwards in my logic.
because i just
“paint by numbers- ppm/ph”
with unlimited oxygen its hard to understand how the plant can absorb the full lot without getting “naturally occuring” ph and ppm up swings that would require flushing or some other sort of “in pot” maintenence. i understand the requirements for the oxygen actually. airdome, hydroton, perylite, stone in the res etc, fair enough.
but i currently have no media to control other than water so im totally baffled as to how the coco seems to regulate its ph and avoid nutrient complications due to the way it feeds by total absorption.
how dont you need to regularly flush it due to shit building up? cos the plant isnt absorbing everything it sucks out of the res so unless your a chemical genious it would surely need reset regularly to keep it in check?
not being cheeky or that i just really dont get the self regulation thing lol
I dont want to sound like a autopot-guru as im definitly not.
First of all, the genetics. You need to get a strong girl that knows what she want. Not every seed will turn out to be a massive plant, atleast not with my experience. So, a good pheno is number 1, the key to success.
I hear you on the painting numbers, you fallow the the girl by how she drinks and change the values in the rez. Sounds easy. You know she eat some nutrients, but you dont know what she eat.
Lets say you were looking at her instead and watched every move she made, every single leaf-tip or slightest touch of defiency, then you could just give her the nutrients she were asking for instead of just add some nutrients to make the numbers right. Sounds harder, but in my ears it sounds more natural.
Checking Ec is a most but to grow the biggest girls i think reading the leafs is even more important and just use the Ec-readings as help on where about shes maxes.
Regarding the nutrient-build up in autopots i think ive seen a clear photo(better then mine) of all the salt buildups gets on the top inch of the medium as the water coming from the bottom constantly. For autos wich has a limited lifespan it doesnt have time to build up so it affects the girls. Most of the roots are down at bottom of the pot wich get fresh nutrients with correct ph drawed in all the time.
Here is a photo of my roots from the Glueberry.
The top inch looks drier with almost no roots. Its here were most of the excess of nutrients end up. So it does not make any harm to the girls, atleast not what i am aware of.
These roots are not the healthiest ones. I turned off the airdome last 7-10 days, dont do that as the roots are used to have extra oxygen around them and when cutting it off, the roots could start to rot.
I will tag you my next attemt growing. I will be using BIG size containers 38 - 50 litres with coco and bottomfeeding. I will document every aspect. I will put every bit of my soul into that grow and i will share it with you guys, every bit. Not just some fancy photos. Well, i will try to take as good photos as i can, but i will let you guys in to my world and how i thinking. And by doing so, i need to share everything i do, not just the photos. I think it will be more fun to fallow aswell.
@912GreenSkell just opened a door i have kept closed. To learn, you have to fail. But im very bad at showing my downers. I have tried to show how good things are and left the errors unspoken. A big mistake as we only get better by learning, learning from faults.
Im just like everyone else, im here to learn, but i think i also have some things that i can share. And i cant know what someone else want to know/learn. So my next grow i will share everything. From lights, temperatures, ph, feeding and why i do something. It could be a small, small tip of a leaf that bothers me, but that small leaf means something. I wont write a book, but i will write alot.
