Hey @pop22 i see posts all the time about this topic, and i have read so many conflicting stories.
Freshly cut buds need properly dried weather they are hung dried or brown bagged. Aiming for a humidity of 60-65%
62% being a lot of peoples preferred spot. The slower the drying process the better- mine usually take 7-10 days
Once they get to that moisture content they can then be jarred- whats your take on burping jars? The weed blogs curing guide states you need air and moisture in the jars for aerobic bacteria to come to life and that they consume chlorophyll making a smother smoke. And that you shouldnt open your jars to burp at all.
But if you open jars and get the slightest whiff of ammonia your buds are too moist and ahould be removed and dried some more.
Whats your take on the curing stage and keeping buds smelling their best

I don't leave anything to chance. I use a hygrometer in my jars to track humidity. I dry 4 to 6 days. When the outside is dry, I put my buds in jars. First day no Boveda. I burp the jars 4 times the first day. Next boveda packs and a hygrometer. I use 59% as I think 62 is just a little too much. after 8 hours, check the humidity. If more than 65% I take them out of the jars and spread them out on a cookie sheet and let them dry a few hours. I only seem to have to to this if I try dry big buds,so I usually give really large buds an extra day or two in the drying wrack. Once the humidity is below 65% the jars stay sealed until use.
My way, when I open a jar, even three months later, my buds smell fresh as the day I jarred them! I find, the minimum for a good cure is 2 weeks, peak is at about 1 month.

The hygrometers I use are cheap, less than $2 usually on ebay. I find they are fairly accurate in the middle of their range because with the 59% Boveda in the jar, the meters all say 59-61%,. So they are a good investment I think!

Always glad to help!

without a meter, you have to dry longer or, instead of burping the jar, dump them out for a few minutes then re-jar. do that a couple times a day until they feel about right, soft and pliable still, but not damp feeling. Boveda and a hygrometer take the guess work out of that! It only took one moldy jar to convince me they were a necessity!

Great detailed info @pop22
I think ive been jarring them on the moist side and they dont smell as good as they should

I bought up 10 of those jar hygrometers for less than $2 each shipped, and they are all working great... I consider them absolutely essential!

Just bought 5 of these exact meters myself for the same deal (only in £'s chap)

Hopefully they are reasonably accurate.
